Dairy educator to visit
There were 12 tables of euchre in
play at the Women's Institute Hall
on Wednesday, April 2.
Winners were: high lady, Winnie
Boyd; second high lady, Jane
Grasby; lone hands, Norma Moore;
low lady, June Jacklin; high man,
Richard Moore; second high man,
Ross Taylor; lone hands, Harvey
Edgar; low man, George Michie.
There will be euchre again on
Wednesday, April 9.
The seniors' bowling scores for
Pairi interviews St. Peter ’
The Evening Unit of the UCW
met at the home of Louise Bosman
with 19 members and one visitor
present.
Barbara Anderson opened the
meeting with a poem, "Spring
Cleaning", followed by an Easter
worship service presented by Ida
Procter.
The scripture readings were from
Genesis I and John I. Jesus Christ
is Risen Today and Rejoice the
Lord Is King were sung.
A meditation was read and the
worship service closed with prayer.
Moms talk home schooling
Mabel's Moms met at their
regular time on Wednesday, April
2.
Those who attended were: Kim
Higgins, Laura and Ashley; Alice
Yuill and Brianna; Connie Shiell,
Christopher, Andrea and Lindsay;
MVCA plans fundraiser
The volunteer members of the
Maitland Conservation Foundation
(MCF) have begun counting the
days until their annual Fundraising
Dinner and Auction. This year's
event is being held at the Brussels,
Morris and Grey Community
Centre on April 18. Proceeds are
being used to support programs at
the Wawanosh Nature Centre.
Vince Judge, chairman of the
event, reports that final
preparations for the evening begin
in earnest this week. "Our
volunteers are very busy picking up
donations from around the
watershed, preparing the program
for the event and finalizing the
details of the silent and live
auctions," said Judge. "We're
looking forward to a terrific
evening that will help to ensure that
high quality education programs
continue to be available at the
Nature Centre."
The event is scheduled to begin
at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour that
will feature live music provided by
a string quartet. Dinner is planned
for 7 p.m. followed by a raffle with
over 90 items up for grabs. Don
Rea, from Listowel, will conduct
the live auction, and guests are also

During the business, the minutes
of the last meeting were read and
adopted. The roll call was answered
by bringing Campbell Soup labels.
The program consisted of an
Easter choral reading, "Were You
There?" which involved most of the
group. Barbara Anderson and
Laura Johnston took part in a
dialogue called "An Interview with
St. Peter".
The meeting closed with the
benediction and lunch was served
by Irene Lamont and Mabel
Wheeler.

dinner and auction will be available
until Tuesday, April 15. The tickets
are $20 per person or $40 per
couple. A tax receipt will be issued
for a portion of the ticket price.

sponsorship opportunities remain
available," said Judge. Ticket

contacting the MCF at 335-3557.
The MCF is a registered,
charitable, non-profit organization
that supports conservation projects
being undertaken by the Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority.

The Grade 8 class at East
Wawanosh Public School are
grateful to the Belgrave Variety for
donating a framed print; The
Fireside Cafe, for donating a $10
gift certificate and Heather Maass
(Justin Campbell's aunt) for a
crocheted afghan. A draw was
made in the classroom on Tuesday,
April 1. The winners were: Isabel
Logan, the afghan; Janice
Robinson, framed print and Norm
Lane, $ 10 gift certificate.
The annual Science Fair was held
at the East Wawanosh Public
School last week. The judges were
very impressed with the quality of
the projects. Five projects have
been selected to advance to the
Huron County finals in Goderich
next week.

Community club plans
mystery tour bus trip
The regular meeting of the
Belgrave Community Club was
held on April 4.
The meeting opened with the
singing of O Canada. The
secretary's and treasurer's report
were given and adopted.
Birthdays in April were Helen
Martin, Ruth King and Gordon
Bosman. Jim and Irene Lamont
celebrated an anniversary in April.
The USCO spring rally is to be
held in Zurich on April 17.
A thank you letter from the
Community Centre Board was read
for its generous donation and for
the work done for the kitchen
cupboards.

kindergarten took place on

The School Advisory council
continues to raise money for a new
creative playground. Hopefully it
will be installed for next Septem
ber. The Belgrave Kinsmen have
pledged $5,000 and the Optimist
Club an initial pledge of $2,000.

family.
Jenessa Elizabeth Swanson was
baptized at an Easter Vigil Service
on Saturday, March 29 at St. Paul's
Anglican Church in Wingham.
Present at the service were her
parents Ken and Leanne, brothers
Corey and Ryan, grandparents,
aunts, uncles, cousins and close
friends. Everyone enjoyed snacks
and refreshments in the church
basement, and cake at her
grandparent's, John and Heather
Shaw.
Mabel Wheeler, accompanied by
Vince, Pat and Alicia Makas
motored to Akron, Ohio and visited
Achievement Awards 1997. No
action was taken.
It was reported that the Seniors
Games would be held in June.
Two bus trips are available for
for club members, a mystery tour
on April 29 and Geritol Follies
June 27. Interested persons can
contact Gordon Bosman or Bob
Grasby.
The guest for the .meeting was
John Gaunt who gave an interesting
presentation on some of his
experiences while serving on the
Ontario Bean Board.
The meeting adjourned to meet
again May 2 at 1:30 p.m.

will be held on Friday, April 25 in
Seaforth. There will be no school
for children.
The Grade 8 grad photos will be
taken on Tuesday, April 15 at
1 p.m. All students will be
photographed in gowns and ribbons
in the school colours. Girls will be
photographed with a bouquet of
roses.

Neil Vincent on the sudden passing
of their daughter, Shannon. May

of London were weekend guests at

WI meets
Belgrave Women's Institute will
hold its annual meeting on
Tuesday, April 15 in the WI Hall,
Belgrave. The evening begins with
a potluck meal at 6:30 p.m.
The guest speakers will be
students of East Wawanosh Public
School, who won in their science
fair projects and public speaking.
The public is invited to this
special meeting.
