The Blyth Novice Bulldogs came up against some tough opposition in the recent Biyth Lions tourna ment. In their first game, solid goal tending by the Milverton netminder kept the home team off the board in what turned out to be a 3-0 loss. Coach Steve Cook said the Bull dogs had numerous chances at the Milverton goal, but failed to beat their man between the pipes. Cook credits Blyth's goalie Jeffrey (The Cat) Elliott for maintaining steady play with "terrific glove and pad saves" that kept his teammates in the game. The squad faced off against a strong Teeswater club in their next contest, which they lost 7-2. Noting the tenacity of their oppo nents, Cook said it was very diffi cult at times to even get the puck out of the Bulldog end. "Blyth had a very strong skating and spirited hockey game in spite of the loss," said Cook. Scoring for the team was Luke Anderson and Darren Austin, which Darcey Cook and Josh Albrechtas assisting. Game three was a close one until the last few minutes when the Brus sels squad sealed the 9-5 victory with two quick insurance goals. Scoring for Blyth was Darren Austin with two, Cook, Anderson and Brett Bean. Cook, Anderson, Bean and Austin were credited with assists in this effort. "The Bulldogs played an excel lent game," said their coach. "It was thrilling for the fans, who saw end-to-end action throughout."
