Brussels Bulls honour their best at banquet

Brad Mulvey accepts the Jason Kraemer Award for
sportsmanship from Don Jacklin. The presentation was
made at the Brussels Bulls year-end banquet, Saturday
night.
Tammy Vincent presents the Mike Vincent Memorial
Award to Brussels Bull Brett Fischer. The award is
presented annually to a player with desire and dedication
to the game and the team. Fischer was honoured at the
Jr. C team’s annual banquet, Saturday night. Tammy is
Mike's sister.
Brussels Bulls Coach Charlie Smith, left, present the
Coaches Award to Dan Williams. This award is given
each year to the player whom the coach feels is
adaptable to situations and can play where he is needed.
He received the honour at the banquet on Saturday night.
Good start
Ann Fitzgerald presents Gary Staples with the Brussels
Bulls award for Top Rookie at the club's year-end dinner
and awards presentation on Saturday night in Brussels.
MVP
Josh Alexander was the Brussels Bulls MVP of the regular
season. He received recognition for this at the annual
banquet with a trophy presented by Frank Stretton.
He’s the top

Ryan Wright with the award for Top Scorer for the
season. Wright, who received the honour at the banquet,
Saturday night, had 23 goals, 23 assists, and six multi
goal games.
Last Saturday night the Bulls
held their annual Awards Banquet
at the BMG Community Centre.
Recapping the 1996-97 season
the Bulls had an up-and-down year.
They finished with seven wins, 16
losses and seven ties with the seven
ties being the most by one team in
the league.
Three Bulls finished in the
league's top 13 scorers in the
league. Ryan Wright finished sixth
with 23 goals and 23 assists for 46
points while Darin Alviano with 18
goals and 17 assists and Steve
Henderson, with 11 goals and 24
assists for 35 points each, tied for
13 th.
The Bulls went from most
penalized team in the league last
year to least penalized team for the
96/97 season with an average of 31
minutes in penalties per game
which is not an easy feat in this
league.
Wright was also third in the
league with multiple goal games
and third overall with two three-
goal games. Alviano tied for
second overall in the league with
three shorthanded goals.
The evening's festivities began
with a delicious potluck meal
enjoyed by the players and the
parents.
The Top Scorer trophy went to
Ryan Wright with his sixth overall,
46 points.
The Jason Kraemer Award for
sportsmanship went to Brad
Mulvey with one goal, four assists
and only 12 minutes in penalties.
Tammy Vincent presented the
Mike Vincent Award for "desire and
dedication to hockey" to Brett
Fischer.
The Most Improved Player award
went to Bulls' goalie Mike DeJong
who finished the season with a 4.49
goals against average.
The MVP of the Regular Season
went to Josh Alexander for his
eight goals, 15 assists and 18
minutes in penalties and also his
strong leadership on and off the ice.
The Rookie of the Year trophy
went to Gary Staples with three
goals and nine assists.
The Coaches Award, picked by
Coach Charlie Smith, is given to
the player the coach feels is best
able to adapt to certain situations
and can play where he is needed at
any given time. This years recipient
is Dan Williams with seven goals
and 10 assists.
The Best Defenceman award
went to Alexander who was also
voted the Western Jr. "C" Leagues
best defenceman by the six other
teams he played against this year.
The MVP of the Playoffs award
was a joint award this year with
Josh Cressman and Alviano taking
home trophies, Cressman with
seven goals and four assists while
Alviano had three goals and four
assists. Incidentally, Cressman
scored half of the Bulls 14 playoff
goals in the three games that were
played.
Congratulations to all of this
year's winners!
BULLS' NOTES: The 1997/98
season will see the Western Jr. C.
league play a 36-game schedule
instead of the 30 games played this
year. Also, due to work
commitments, Head Coach Charlie
Smith has stepped down and
Assistant Coach Ron Livermore
will assume the duties of head
coach. Smith will stay with the
Bulls in another capacity.
The executive thanks Smith for
his dedication to the team and wish
Livermore the best in his new
position.
