Murray talks of Palm Sunday turning point Brad Finlayson and Shannon Gibbons greeted worshippers at Duff's United Church March 23 Palm Sunday. The service began with Rev. James Murray giving the Call to Worship from the back of the church. Tell Me The Stories of Jesus was the processional hymn, as the Sunday school children proceeded down the aisle. Rev. Murray then spent time with the children showing them a coin with Queen Elizabeth, noting how we know she is a ruler by the crown that she wears. The palm branches represented Jesus as a leader, a King, he said. Rev. Murray made note of the Easter Lilies decorating the front of the sanctuary, which were placed there by the UCW for the shut-ins of the congregation. The lilies were compliments from Seaforth's Knechtel store. He also announced that the next UCW meeting will be April 2 at 1:15 p.m. with Marj Teeft demonstrating her Ukrainian Easter egg decorating. He also noted that Easter Sunday service will be at 11:30 a.m. The children sang, Palm Sunday Peace with Gloria Wilbee playing the guitar. The adult choir sang a lively Palm Sunday hymn called, He Came Riding on a Donkey. The children went to Sunday School where they made crosses out of the palm branches. Rev. Murray began his sermon by saying that Palm Sunday is a unique turning point in the Christian year. The mood is changing as people have just gone through lent where it has been a time of self-examination and now it is the test. He pointed out that his stole is red, representing the blood of Christ. Palm branches were laid on the ground as Jesus entered the city. The people were excited as the Messiah came, riding the donkey. He was a King who would hopefully rid them of Roman rule and stop the suffering. "Did Jesus know that His life would end in the way that it did?" Rev. Murray asked. He had some pretty serious questions for God. Was all of this worth dying for? Am I doing it for the right reasons? Can I go to the wall for this one? Everyone has challenges and issues in their lives that they have to deal with. What is worth going to the wall for, worth fighting and dying for? If they don't stand up and fight for what they believe in they die in spirit, Rev. Murray said. "How do we know which is the right thing to fight for? We can ask, 'Is what I am doing, adding to life?'" Change comes by self-sacrifice and self-change, not by murder and violence, he said. The children came up from Sunday School and joined in the sacraments of holy communion, which were served by Olene and Murray Dennis and Jim and Mary Mann. Marion McClure, Clerk-Treasurer Township of McKlllop R.R. #1 Seaforth N0K1W0 (519) 527-1916 PURPOSE AND EFFECT: This By-law Amendment -1997 represents a general housekeeping of Comprehensive Zoning By law 26-1988 for the Township of McKillop. This zoning by-law amendment proposes a number of changes to various sections of text within by-law 26-1988. In general the majority of these amendments apply to the entire township. These amendments can be summarized as follows: Revisions to the current minimum separation distance requirements between agricultural and non- agricultural uses to generally Incorporate the New Minimum Distance Separation formula (MDS I & II) recommended by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Also included are definitions for several terms used by the new formulas. This By-law Incorporates setbacks for liquid livestock manure storage tanks and animal housing structures, from wells and watercourses, and a minimum separation distance for the establishment of manure storage facilities. This by-law also incorporates maximum livestock units per hectare on farms with less than 20 hectares (50 acres). The establishment or expansion of any liquid manure storage facility must be in accordance with the Township of McKlllop Liquid Manure Storage By-law. The required length of liquid manure storage capacity Is changed to an eight-month period. This By-law also Includes regulations for the location of Microwave Communication Towers within the Township of McKillop. The provisions for accessory buildings are amended and consolidated. This By-law allows for the extension of existing zoning to include abutting lands that are being severed and merged on title with the existing parcel for minor lot enlargement purposes. This By-law also permits an encroachment of .6096 metres (2 ft.) into any required yard. This By-law permits existing deficiencies of a building to be recognized as legal non-complying after a severance or rezoning is granted, however, this provision would not apply to parking requirements. Also included is a clarification of the date of non-complying status. The definition of a public road is expanded to require buildings to maintain the appropriate setbacks. A general provision is added to allow for a building to be established straddling a lot line. Key Map 6 of by-law 26-1988 Is amended to correct the zoning of part of lot 26, con. 4, Township of McKillop from AG1 (General Agriculture) to AG4 (Agricultural Small Holding) to recognize the existence of a small holding property upon which there is a single-detached residence that has existed for some time.
