Spring blooms early in the market garden business
The growing season begins early
for people like Gerry Greydanus,
owner of Greyhaven Nursery
outside Londesboro.
With their understanding of
Mother Nature's demands and
benefits, horticulture is a fitting
sideline for those in the
agricultural industry. A poultry
farmer, Greydanus has had a
longtime interest in plants and
after first branching into market
gardening, he began making the
shift to bedding plants three years
ago.
Clockwise from top left: the
interior of the greenhouse; starting
anew; potting some freshia;
making a cutting; after taking root;
some tools of the trade; fertilizing
the fresh cutting; pinching off a
plant; food and drink (a pipe
system takes over during the peak
times); lilies, lilies and more lilies
