From the Minister’s Study Get excited about life Proceeds to Blyth Church of God Building F und Phone 523-4590 for Information By Les Cook Blyth Community Church of God It is always exciting to watch the face of a child while they are at play. The fire in their eye, the squeal in their voice. When children play there is nothing else in the world outside of their game. Maybe this is what Christ was referring to when he said, "Unless we become like little children." Is it possible to be that focused on the joys of life that we regain our childlike naivety? And, if we could become this focused on the positive, who would look after all of the negative that's out there? I do believe it is possible and when we leam to focus on the good things in life we will be better equipped to deal with whatever comes our way. Sometimes as we mature, our focus changes from the future to the past or from what could be to what could have been. But the Bible gives us lots of examples of thoughts to focus on to insure that we re-establish that childlike faith we are all called to. Here are five such examples. If I am ever tempted to give in to a "bad day" I remind myself of the things that I get excited about. 1. I GET EXCITED ABOUT OTHERS Romans 12:10 says, "Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourself." When our purpose in life is to honour others by being devoted to their betterment, there is no time left to be distracted by a pity party. 2. I GET EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE Romans 8:12 - "And we know that in all things God works for the good of all those who love Him." Sometimes we just don't see a big enough picture. 3. I GET EXCITED ABOUT SUCCESS 1 Corinthians 15:58 - "Be steadfast, immovable, always excelling." An important part of excelling is appreciating it when others excel, so I don't just get excited about my own success, but about success where ever I find it. 4. I GET EXCITED ABOUT IMPOSSIBILITIES Ephesians 3:20 - "Now glory be to God who by His mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than wc would ever dare to ask or even dream of; infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts or hopes." If you believe that God is able to do far more than we would ever ask, then whatever circumstance we could be in, would be an opportunity to prove that God is still in the business of miracles. 5. I GET EXCITED ABOUT MY STANDING (WITH GOD) 1 Corinthians 2:16 - "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ. No matter where I go or what I am doing I have an open channel to the mind of Christ. These are just a few of many powerful affirmations and promises of the Bible. Don't let a long winter or a temporary economic situation get you down. Instead GET EXCITED AND STAY EXCITED! This life is too short to establish thought patterns and attitudes that we can't take with us to the next realm.
