The Owl Prowl is scheduled to begin inside the Nature Centre at 7 p.m. with an introduction highlighting the amazing adaptations that enable owls to be extremely successful hunters. Some of the myjhs and legends surrounding these nocturnal creatures will be explored, and MVCA staff plan to have various hands-on displays on view including photos, owl pellets, and feathers. Visitors will become acquainted with the majestic flight of the great homed owl, the spooky face of the bam owl, the tiny yet tenacious saw-whet owl, and the eerie call of the screech owl. The second part of the program is a night hike through the Conservation Area led by MVCA staff. E ntertainment Sound of music fills Centre The stage at The Centre In The Square will be filled with the 'sound of music' when Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic, romantic musical appears on March 31 and April 1. This glorious and uplifting all- new national touring production of The Sound of Music celebrates the adventures of the famous von Trapp Family Singers and includes some of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein's most memor able tunes: My Favourite Things, Edelweiss, Lonely Goatherd, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, the title song The Sound of Music and the Climb Every Mountain. Winner of seven Tony awards including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score, The Sound of Music also garnered a Grammy for Best Original Cast Album and a Gold record. The 1965 film version was the winner of five Academy Awards including the Oscar for Best Picture. The Sound of Music was one of Broadway's biggest smash hits. It starred Mary Martin as Maria and for 43 months, from its New York opening in November, 1959, to its closing in June, 1963, it became the second longest-running musical of the decade with a total of 1,443 performances. It was also the final work of Oscar Hammerstein 11 who died nine months after the opening. The 1965 film version of the musical starred Julie Andrews as Maria and Christopher Plummer as the Captain. The musical became one of the highest-grossing motion pictures of all time. The Sound of Music follows the real life story of the von Trapp Family Singers, who delighted concert hall audiences in American and Europe in the late 1930s and '40s. The family had lived securely and happily in an Austrian castle until the Nazi invasion forced them to flee into exile and become performers. The musical begins with Maria on the hills near Nonnberg Abbey where she has escaped the restrictions of the convent to do the thing that she loves best - sing. Maria's behaviour is often the cause of great distress to the conservative nuns of the abbey and when a request comes from the aristocratic Captain von Trapp for a young woman who might be governess to his seven motherless children, the Mother Abbess immediately thinks of Maria. The decision proves to be wise and Maria wins the hearts of the children and eventually the heart of their father. Maria teaches the children the joys of singing, and ultimately helps the entire family escape the threat to their lives and liberty Happy 40th Anniversary Dance /or when the Nazis invade Austria. During its 28-wcek national tour, The Sound of Music will be seen in over 125 cities across the U.S. and Canada. /Saturday (FREE T-SHIRTS FOR THE 1ST 25 PEOPLE AFTER 9 P.M.! a^ST.
