Brussels Livestock report
Cattle, fed steer, heifer prices rise $2 to $4
averaging 1,361 lbs. sold for an
average of $88 with sales to $93.
Ten steers consigned by Terry
McCarthy, Dublin, averaging 1,334
lbs. sold for an average of $89.08
The sales at Brussels Livestock
for the week ending Feb. 28 were:
fed cattle, 618; cows, 200; veal
calves, 222; lambs and goats, 114;
and stockers, 1,047.
The fed steers and heifers sold $2
to $4 higher with the cows selling
$2 to $3 higher. Veal sold steady
with lambs selling on a very strong
trade. Calves sold steady on Friday
with yearlings selling $3 to $4
higher.
There were 333 steers on offer
selling from $89 to $94 to the high
of $101. Thirty-four steers
consigned by Dale and Dave
Foster, St. Marys, averaging 1,370
lbs. sold for an average of $93.60
with sales to $101. Twenty-eight
steers consigned by Jim Howatt,
Londesboro, averaging 1,422 lbs.
sold for an average of $93.46 with
sales to $98. Five steers consigned
by Charles Ready, St. Marys,
averaging 1,282 lbs. sold for an
average of $96.77 with sales to
$97.25.
Forty-one steers consigned by
Cunningham Farms, Lucan,
averaging 1,441 lbs. sold for an
average of $90.10 with sales to
$94.50. Nine steers consigned by
Machan Construction, Monkton,
averaging 1,363 lbs. sold for an
average of $92.27 with sales to
$93.40. Twenty steers consigned by
Robert E. Wallace, Shelburne,
with sales to $92.50.
Ten steers consigned by Gord
Hem, Granton, averaging 1,266 lbs.
sold for an average of $91.28 with
sales to $92.50. Fourteen steers
consigned by Don Culbert,
Dungannon, averaging 1,378 lbs.
sold for an average of $90.82 with
sales to $91.85. Three steers
consigned by Dale Gammie,
Lucknow, averaging 1,088 lbs. sold
for an average of $90.83 with sales
to $91.
There were 273 heifers on offer
selling from $89 to $94 to the high
of $97.50. Four heifers consigned
by Darren Johnston, Bluevale,
averaging 1,180 lbs. sold for an
average of $84.85 with sales to
$96.50. Ten heifers consigned by
Woodham Farms, Woodham,
averaging 1,231 lbs. sold for an
average of $73.66 with sales to
$95.75. Fourteen heifers consigned
by Mux Lea Farms, Woodstock,
averaging 1,230 lbs. sold for an
average of $88.48 with sales to
$95.50.
Twenty-eight heifers consigned
by Hugh Love, Atwood, averaging
1,203 lbs. sold for an average of
$88.61 with sales to $95. Twenty
heifers consigned by Carol and
Glen Leibold, Ayton, averaging
1,168 lbs. sold for an average of
$87.59 with sales to $94.75. Two
heifers consigned by Tom
Ellerington, Centralia, averaging
1,207 lbs. sold for an average of
$91.31 with sales to $94. Seven
heifers consigned by Ronland
Farm, Stratford, averaging 1,237
lbs. sold for an average of $90.18
with sales to $93.25. Eleven heifers
consigned by Alec Nivens, Auburn,
averaging 1,269 lbs. sold for an
average of $88.31 with sales to
$93.25. Five heifers consigned by
Tracy Curran, Dungannon,
averaging 1,144 lbs. sold for an
average of $88.67 with sales to
$92.75.
There were 200 cows on offer
selling from $38 to $60 to the high
of $70. One Simmental cow
consigned by Adolph Hostetiler,
Monkton, weighing 1,610 lbs. sold
for $70. Two black cows consigned
by Dale Bachert, Bly th, averaging
1,670 lbs. sold for an average of
$59.92 with sales to $64. Two
Holstein cows consigned by
Harvey Gibson, Gorrie, averaging
1,783 lbs. sold for an average of
$61.11 with sales to $63.50.
There were 12 bulls on offer
selling from $51 to $62.50 to the
high of $66.50. One Limousin bull
consigned by Neil Winger,
Listowel, weighing 2,070 lbs. sold
for $66.50. On Gold bull consigned
by Hank Versteeg, Wingham,
weighing 2,075 lbs. sold for
$63.50.
There were 22 veal on offer
selling from: Beef, $80 to $106;
Holstein, $70 to $85; Plain
Holstein, $50 to $70. Two veal
consigned by Chris Palmer,
Wingham, averaging 715 lbs. sold
for an average of $89.31 with sales
to $106. Three veal consigned by
Raymond Wilts, Auburn, averaging
638 lbs. sold for an average of
$95.01 with sales to $100.50. Two
veal consigned by David Erb,
Wellesley, averaging 648 lbs. sold
for an average of $88.88 with sales
to $100.
Steers, under 400 lbs., sold $60
to $107.50; 400 - 499 lbs., $78 to
$125; 500 - 599 lbs., $76 to $111;
600 - 699 lbs., $78 to $103.50; 700
- 799 lbs., $82.75 to $102; 800 -
899 lbs., $87 to $106.50; and 900
lbs. and over, $85 to $108.50.
Heifers, 300 to 399 lbs. sold $79
to $96; 400 to 499 lbs., $65 to
$106.50; 500 to 599 lbs., $75 to
$97.50; 600 to 699 lbs., $66 to
$92.50; 700 to 799 lbs., $67 to $88;
800 to 899 lbs., $74 to $95; and
900 lbs. and over, $74 to $91.
Plain stockers sold $35 to $55.

The Wingham Legion Peewees
scored an impressive 11 -0 decision
over Milverton last Thursday to
advance to the WOAA finals
against Lucknow.
The first game of the best three
of five series was played Monday
in Lucknow. Milverton applied
early pressure, but Matthew
Dinning scored from Jake
Henderson and Justin Campbell
with what proved to be the winning
goal. Zachary O'Krafka gave
Wingham a 2-0 lead with help from
Curtis Knight and Geoff Lindsay.
Dinning made it 3-0 before the end
of the first period with Jamie
Chester getting the assist.
The second period was all
Wingham as they added five more
goals. Chester, unassisted,
O'Krafka from Jerrad Riley,
Chester from Kent Readman and
Campbell; Campbell from Chester
and Chester from Knight put the
game out of reach.
Patrick Rozendal suffered a
possible broken collarbone midway
through the second period.
Wingham kept the pressure on in
the third period adding three more.
Henderson scored trom Tyson
Glassier, Knight scored from
O'Krafka and Kent McPherson and
Chester scored his fourth of the
game from Riley and goalie James
Needham. Needham played a
strong game in net, making several
key saves to preserve the shutout.

Peters kept the opponent off the
board while his teammates popped
10 over the line.
The five goals in the first were
scored by Brittany Peters, Jonathon
McDowell, Kendall Whitfield,
Brandon Kellington and Richard
Greg.
Whitfield slapped in two more in
the second with Peters adding one.
The final two netters were scored
by Jenkins and Campbell.
Earning assists in the game were
Whitfield, Kellington, McDowell,
Jenkins and Bradley Haines.
The offense could not keep up
the attack for the final match of the
tournament as they were outscored
by Brussels 7-1.
Whitfield, assisted by Peters,
scored the lone goal.
