Both teams scored back and forth until the last period when Christopher Jutzi scored to take the lead. Bayfield needed to score in the last shift to tie and force a shoot out, but Brussels defence shut them down while Chris Corbett scored three goals in a row to win the first game 8-4. Game two against Lucknow 3 was one-sided for Brussels. After Lucknow scored the first goal, Brussels scored 11 unanswered. Scoring for Brussels was Corbett with seven, Christopher Jutzi with two, Adam Corbett and Alyssa Gowing each with one. Game three the final, was a total all-out effort by the whole Brussels Bulldogs begin playoff series On Wednesday, Feb. 26 the Blyth Novice Bulldogs took to the ice in the first game of a best of five series against Hensall for the WOAA consolation playoffs. The end result brought them no closer to a winner, with a tie. Blyth's two goals were scored by Brett Bean, assisted by Kyle Nixon and Luke Anderson, and Darcey Cook. Coach Steve Cook said, "It was a well-played game by both teams with outstanding goaltending from Blyth's Jeffrey (The Cat) Elliott and Hensall's Greg McTaggart." The team went into a 10-minute Junior Girls lose The Belgrave Junior Girls fin­ ished the season with a year-end tournament in Ripley this past Sat­ urday. Their first game came at 8 a.m. against a strong Walkerton squad. It ended with Belgrave on the short side of a 3-1 score. Michelle Cook, assisted by Rachel Elliott teamed for the lone Belgrave marker. Coach Steve Cook said, "The girls played a strong game, but were unable to overcome a well- prepared Walkerton team. Brook­ lyn Wheeler made several saves in net to hold them in the game." In the second game the team met with Kincardine and played to a tie. Kerri Meier notched the Belgrave goal. The fast-flying offence consisted of Corbett, Jutzi, Andrew Baker, Tom Cronin, Gowing, Wade Stephenson and Matthew Souch. The Belgrave team received a finalist banner and trophy for the second year in a row. The team will continue with exhibition play up until the year- end banquet set for Sunday, April 6. Blyth Atoms begin best of 5 It was the championship finals for the Blyth Atoms Reps when they met Stephen Twp. in the first of a best-of-five series, Feb. 27. The opponent took the game 4-1 with the only Blyth goal scored by Tyler Kernighan, unassisted. Blyth was much more deter­ mined when they travelled to Stephen Twp. Saturday, taking the contest 5-1 Trevor Koehler and Kernighan scored late in the first to take the lead. Cody Anderson added to the tally in the last minute of play in the middle frame before Stephen Twp. got on the board. Koehler assisted on the play. Anderson and Kernighan com­ bined for two more in the third period, each scoring one and assist­ ing on the other. Ryan McClinchey Bantams get even The Blyth Bantams opened their WOAA final series against Lions Head Friday night in Lions Head. The boys seemed sluggish after a long bus ride and came out on the losing end of a 5-2 score. Tyler Slewart scored Blyth's first goal on a pass from Dave Ansley. Kyle Anderson scored the second goal on a breakaway with an assist going to Adam Anderson. The second game returned to Blyth Sunday afternoon. The home team seemed more poised and came out with a strong effort in the first period. They built a 4-1 lead, but Lions Head did not quit. Blyth had to keep working hard and eventually won 7-5. Blyth got goals from Malt Ander­ son, three; Joel Arthur; Derek Cook; T. Stewart and D. Ansley. Assists were credited to K. Anderson, three; Darrell McDougall, two; Jamie Black, two; A. Ander­ son; D. Ansley; D. Cook and J. Arthur. Dean Wilson provided solid goaltending in the Blyth net.
