Knox children make promises Jeanine Van Camp, daughter of Joel and Julie Van Camp, cele­ brated her sixth birthday on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at her home. Enjoying the occasion were Mat­ thew Stevenson, Alicia Appleby, Kay tee Richmond, Tammy Hewitt, Meagan Pletch, Melinda Dorsch and Jeanine's little brothers, Jordon and Jesse. The children enjoyed playing games and other activities. Congratulations to Johanna (nee Van Camp) and Rob Schurter on the birth of their twin girls, Alicia Jean and Emily Rita born on December 24. Gord and Louise Bosman have returned home after spending a month in Victoria, British Columbia. They had an enjoyable trip with pleasant weather. John and Laurie Manners and Nathan of Brantford spent last weekend at the home of John, Linda, Jeremy and Justin Campbell. Mr. and Mrs. Randy Nixon of Brampton spent last weekend with Belgrave relatives. Dr. Ray and Cindy Nicholson, Victoria and Alexandra of Elmira spent the weekend with Gamer and Alice Nicholson. Sandra Mayberry of Londesboro and Karen Procter of RR 5, Brussels visited with Beth Procter Grade 3s prepare for assessment activities The Grade 3 students will undergo a series of assessment activities in the area of reading, writing and mathematics following the March break. Detailed informa­ tion will be sent home on these provincial tests to parents/ guardians of all Grade 3 students. A school advisory council meeting was held recently with an excellent turnout of parents. Doug Garniss and Vicki Culbert, the school trustees, were able to be at the meeting. Those present were Mary Edgar of Petrolia, Brian, Janet and Alison Edgar of Brigden and Audrey Edgar of RR 4, Wingham, Irlma Edgar of Wingham and Lewis and Helen Stonehouse of Belgrave. Mabel's Moms met at their regular time on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Those who attended were Kim Higgins and Laura; Elaine Scott and Peyton; Alice Yuill and Brianna; Donna Raynard, Trevor and Heidi; Brenda Watson, Tayler and Tyler; Leanne Swanson and Janessa, Mary Jane Hobden and Stephen. Their topic was "Getting Acquainted". The next meeting will be March 5 at the regular time. There will be no meeting in the March break and on March 26 they will resume. creative playground equipment. Mrs. McArter reports that the committee hopes to sell chocolate bars after the March break. Another project currently underway is the recipe book. The final deadline for submission will be March 7. The committee is hoping that each parent will send in at least one recipe. Three parent volunteers plan to word process the recipes over the holidays. Your support would be deeply appreciated. The second term report cards will be sent home on Friday, March 7. For songtime two familiar hymns were sung, followed by Call to Worship and the Prayer of Approach in unison. The choir of mixed voices sang Make a Joyful Noise, accompanied by Elizabeth Procter at the piano. The Hebrew scripture was taken from Exodus 20, 1-17, followed by the singing of / Danced. The children gathered in the front pew and Rev. Mary Jane Hobden continued with "The Rainbow Grows". She added the colour green and the word "Promises". The theme of the sermon was centred around the scripture lessons and the 10 commandments. Receiving the offering was Adam Potter and Ken Procter. Kendra Folkard and Julie Van Camp were in charge of nursery. Prayers of the people was followed by The Lord's Prayer with the closing hymn Amazing Grace bringing the low lady, Lois Chamney; high man, Harvey Edgar; second high man, Kay McCormick; lone hands, Rob Grasby; low man, Garner Nicholson. There will be euchre again on March 5 al 8 p.m. There were 10 tables of shoot in play at the Belgrave Community Centre on Friday, Feb. 28. Winners were: high lady, Lillian Appleby; second high lady, Aileen Leddy; most shoots, Mary Taylor; low lady, Ida Procter; high man, Stuart Chamney; second high man, service to a close. Each family participating will receive one complimentary 8x10 natural colour portrait and a compli­ mentary copy of the new directory just for attending and selecting a pose for the directory. Pictures will be taken March 13-15 in the church basement. Hours for pictures are 3 - 9 p.m., Thursday and Friday; and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone with any pictures of church activities, or who are taking any in the near future, are to let Rev.
