Seniors take armchair trip to S. Africa
The Bly th Swinging Seniors met
on Feb. 26 in the Memorial Hall
with a good attendance.
They started with a sumptuous
potluck dinner, and then gathered
for their meeting, which opened
with O Canada. Phyllis Boak was
the pianist.
President Lawrence Plaetzcr
introduced Daryl Ball from the
Auburn area. About 10 years ago
he had a very interesting trip to
South Africa. He brought his
pictures along and gave a very
interesting commentary. They
landed in England first and did a
little sightseeing there, then flew on
to Johannesburg, South Africa. He

The Beginner skaters with the Blyth Figure Skating and Power Skating Club had tun and
laughter on the Wagon Train during the Ho-Down-Show-Down carnival, Feb. 28. Riders on
the wagon were Emily Allen, Danielle Bean, Courtney Bos, Hannah Uyl, Michael McDowell,
Sydney Otten, Correnna Otten, Jordan Rinn, Allanna Roy, Nicolette Wallace, Megan Root,
Tyler Root, Anya Scott, Benjamin Nethery and Brittany Cartwright. Several older skaters
helped out.
travelled with a group of young
people and camped out every night.
They had an excellent guide and
used a land rover for transportation
as well as small planes and little
canoes around the crocodile-
infested waters. They travelled over
much desert country and had to
watch for snakes.
Some of the animals they saw
were elephants, wild beasts,
baboons, hippos, zebra, lions and
giraffes. Some were on game
reserves and some in the wild.
They mainly cooked their own
meals and bought food from
roadside stands. They also visited
small villages which had different
dress codes and customs.
They viewed the famous Victoria
Falls which are a mile wide and the
largest in the world.
He told the seniors many
amusing stories and said he had a
very interesting trip, but Canada is
still the best country.
Lawrence thanked Daryl and
gave him a token of appreciation.
Members then continued with the
meeting. They sung Happy
Birthday to Elsie Walsh, Vera
Hesselwood and Lawrence Plaetzer
for their February birthdays. There
were no wedding anniversaries in
February.
The usual reports were given and
accepted as read. The March
meeting is cancelled. Members will
be visiting with the Londesboro
Seniors on March 26 at 12:30 p.m.
The bus trip was discussed. The
program committee will look into
this and report back.
The next meeting will be on
April 23.
Lawrence recited a very
humorous poem called "Where do
you Buy Scratch?" This was
enjoyed by all, Harv McDowell and
Vera Badley then led a lively sing
song with Phyllis Boak at the
piano.

ones.”
Though the local utilities have
selected a preferred option for
amalgamating services, Stewart
pointed out that the Minister of
Environment and Energy has not
said he will select any of the sug
gestions put before him. Ontario
Hydro has also been developing a
plan of operation.
Stewart also explained that no
business plan has been created for a
new utility, such as where the busi
ness office or work stations would
be or the number of employees.
“The study was just a look at the
viability of moving to a different
system, he said.”
