Provincial Truck Salvage, 519-843-1126. 05-3p Cty. briefs Rents for the Highland and Heartland apartments at Huronlea and Huronview will increase by the maximum allowed for 1997: 3.8 per cent. The increase, to come into effect in May, will see a one-bedroom apartment cost $594.81 and a two- bedroom apartment cost $724.26. The increase will provide an extra $17,200 in rent. But under questioning from sev eral councillors, Kathy Brown, administrator of the homes for the aged, explained that this was designed only as a cost-recovery program. If the apartments, which were 100 per cent funded by the province, should begin to show a profit, 10 per cent of the profit will go into a capital fund and the province will get 80 per cent of the remainder. There is currently no budget for capital improvements other than routine maintenance. The rent covers only housing for residents. There are other packages that they can purchase to give them meals, housekeeping services or emergency nursing services. *** James Gibson, one of the landowners whose property was involved in the proposed Ashfield Twp. county landfill site, has requested $10,000 for the disrup tion caused by the study of his site, and $15,000 to cover legal expens es. The Planning and Development Department's waste management committee has asked for an item ized account of the claim. Meanwhile Golder Associates has been authorized to abandon the 15 monitoring test wells on the Ashfield site, at a cost of $15,200. *** The implementation of a 9-1-1- emergency calling session for Huron County continues to move forward. Estimates of the cost of installing new signs to inform peo ple of the name or number of each road or street, runs at about $100 per sign. It is estimated it will cost each property owner $20 to install a property number sign on their prop erty. *** Craig Hardwoods of Auburn was the successful bidder to harvest timber from a three-acre woodlot at Huronview. The company will pay $6,500, $2,060 more than the other bidder, Tri-county Lumber inc. and also will clean up tops.
