The Blyth Tykes Houseleague
team got off to a quick start against
Goderich, Feb. 10, taking an early
two goal lead.
Richard Gregg's goals at 16:22
and 10:11 put the home team on
top before Goderich evened the
score within three minutes.
A shot by Brittany Peters, assist-
skate to tie
ed by Kendall Whitfield, gave
Blyth the lead midway through the
second, but they could not hold the
lead.
Goderich scored at 3:02 of the
middle frame.
The game ended a 3-3 tie.
Joel Salverda stood between the
posts for Blyth.
Blyth Atoms advance to finals
The Blyth Atom Rep hockey
team advanced to the WOAA final
by eliminating Hensall in three
straight games.
After winning just 2-1 in Hensall
in the opener, Blyth returned home
and went on a scoring binge. Blyth
scored five first period goals and
coasted to a 13-4 win.
Goal scorers for Blyth were Cole
Stewart, five; Kirk Stewart, three;
Micah Loder, two; Steven Van
Amersfoort, Tyler Kemighan and
Andy Toll. Picking up assists were
Cody Anderson, three; C. Stewart,
three; K. Stewart, three; Van
Amersfoort; Trever Koehler; Mike
Bean; Ryan McClinchey;
Kemighan and Toll.
Eric Jarrett picked up the win in
the Blyth net.
Blyth returned to Hensall on
Saturday for game three. With their
backs to the wall, Hensall came out
working hard and held Blyth to a 3-
1 lead at the end of the second
period. Hensall then scored early in
the third to make it 3-2. This goal
seemed to wake up the Blyth squad
as they scored seven unanswered
goals to seal a 10-2 win.
Koehler scored three goals for
Blyth, while Van Amersfoort and
C. Stewart notched two each.
Singles went to Loder, Bean and K.
Stewart. Assists were credited to K.
Stewart, four; C. Stewart, three; T.
J. Marks, two; McClinchey, Toll
and Kemighan.
Justin Peters back-stopped the
win in the Blyth net.
Blyth now awaits the winner of
the Wallace-Lions Head series for
the WOAA Championship.
Brussels Juvies lead by 3 games
Brussels Juveniles won the third
game 6 - 3 on Sunday, Feb. 16 to
take a three game lead over
Drayton in OMHA "D" playoffs.
First period action saw Brussels
open the scoring with a goal from
Matt Shortreed assisted by Clint
Fischer. The visitors replied with
two goals to end the period with a
2-1 lead.
The home team replied with three
unanswered goals in the second to
take a 4-2 lead. Brett Fischer went
coast to coast and circled the
Drayton net and tucked one in on
the short side. Two minutes later
Tim Stricker got the go-ahead goal.
With 'nss than two minutes
remaining Josh Beuermann got his
first goal of the series, assisted by
Tim Powell and Geoff Dalton.
In the third Jason Kellington got
the puck in a scramble in front of
the net to score with assists to Brad
Mulvey and Tim Machan.
Beuermann scored his second of
the game with assists to Machan
and Kellington.
Drayton replied with a goal of
their own to end the game at 6-3.
Brussels' powerplay units picked
up two goals in this game.
This series has been a real team
effort as 14 different players have
been involved in the scoring.
The series resumes on Sunday,
Feb. 23 in Drayton at 2 p.m.
Crusaders down by 2
in playoff series final
Ryan Thompson's second goal of
the game, a wrap-a-round with
eight seconds remaining, gave the
Wiarton Redmen a 4-3 win and
two-game lead over the Brussels
Crusaders in Senior Hockey playoff
action.
Ryan Robins and Jeff Wilkins
also scored for Wiarton with Don
Richardson adding four assists.
Steve Fritz with two, and Corey
McKee scored for Brussels, who
led 1-0 after 20 minutes, but were
tied at two heading into the third.
McKee's goal midway through the
final period gave the Crusaders a
short-lived (49 second) lead.
Game one saw the Redmen take
the series lead with a 6-1 home ice
win. Fritz scored the only goal of
the first period before Wiarton
rallied with three in each of the
next two periods. Scott Bridge and
Robins each scored twice with
assists for 40 points and Pat
Cronin's 4.61 goals against average
was the best amongst starting
goaltenders. Tim Harrison of the
Goderich Pirates won the scoring
championship with 61 points while
the Shelburne Muskies goaltenders
recorded the lowest goals against
average.
