Brussels Tykes claim 3 of 4
Members of the Wallace Bantams had a little more
finesse than this might appear, defeating the hometown
Brussels team by 5-2 in playoff action last Wednesday
night.
Norwich blasts Novices
Brussels Novices did not fare
well against Bayfield, when they
welcomed them to town for a
league game, Feb. 4.
Brussels, off to a slow start,
faced a 4-0 deficit to get back into
the game.
With less than half a period left,
a shot by Mitch Blake crossed the
line. Brent Wheeler earned the
assist.
Never giving up, Brussels scored
again with only 40 seconds remain
ing, off the stick of Wheeler.
Matthew White and Tate
Stephenson aided on the play.
In tournament play, Brussels
travelled to Zurich, Feb. 8, where
the competition was not kind.
Brussels met Norwich in the first
game and lost 10-0. The squad was
thoroughly outplayed by a bigger
and faster team.
Kyle Stephenson was the MVP
for Brussels for his valiant effort in
net. He faced many difficult shots
and made several excellent saves.
The second game saw a better
result for Brussels, though they still
took the loss against Hensail.
Brussels scored first at 9:44 of
the first, but traded goals for a 2-2
tie going into the final minutes of
the match.
Hensall got one past the Brussels
goalie in the late going, but even
with the goalie pulled, Brussels
could not score the equalizer.
Goals were scored by White and
Kyle Proctor. Cory Chapman and
White were credited with assists.
Proctor was named MVP for
Brussels.
It's been a verv productive time
for the Brussels Tykes as they won
three games of four, in nine days.
They took to the ice against Clin
ton B, Feb. 1, doubling up the visi
tors.
Brussels came out storming,
blasting six past the Clinton net-
minder in the first while allowing
only two.
Goalscorers were Adam Corbett,
Chris Corbett (four) and Christo
pher Jutzi. Assists went to Wade
Stephenson, Matthew Souch, Lance
Stafford, William King and Shane
Gibson.
The attack did not end there as
the Corbett brothers each bulged
the twine early in the second.
Alyssa Gowing and Jake Verbeek
earned assists.
Clinton managed two more
against goalie Chase Chapman, fin
ishing the game down 84.
Last Wednesday, when Blyth
came to town, the squad was in for
a tougher battle.
C. Corbett notched all four goals
for the home team, the first at 16:41
of the first.
Going into the second up 2-1,
Brussels added another at 12:48
before Blyth drew within one.
Blyth PeeWees
end fast series
It was a quick series for Blyth
PeeWees when they went up
against Hensall in the A division
playoffs.
Great goaltending by Ryan Lee
allowed his teammates to capture a
convincing 10-2 win in the first
contest.
Goals were scored by Jeremy
Austin, Craig Marks (two), Scott
Austin (two), Matt Anderson
(three), Derek Cook and Matt
Bromley.
The clincher showed superb
passing which led to a 9-0 victory

Blyth tied the game with less
than two and a half minutes
remaining, but Corbett, with the
help of Stephenson and Andrew
Baker popped the winning goal
with T1 seconds left.
Tyler Dietner, Stafford, King and
Stephenson also earned assists in
the game.
Il was another blowout for Brus
sels when they met Hensall on
home ice, Feb. 8.
The combination of C. Corbett
and Stephenson could not be held
back, scoring three of the eight
goals.
Off the mark early, C. Corbett,
with Stephenson and Stafford
struck at 18:50 and again at 18:35.
C. Corbett then got assistance
from linemates Chapman and King
for his third netter.
Stephenson was back on the ice
to set up C. Corbett at 12:10 of the
first.
A pass from Gowing and Souch
aided C. Corbett 39 seconds before
the whistle.
Even with a comfortable 5-0 lead
going into the second, Brussels did
not take off the pressure.
A. Corbett, assisted by Jutzi,
scored at 16:01 with C. Corbett
adding his sixth eight minutes later.
Hensall finally got on the board
at 7:40 of the second, only to see
Jutzi, set up by C. Corbett and
Gowing, push one over the line at
2:10. The final score was 8-1.

Blyth Atoms
win shutout
In the first game of roundrobin
play, the Blyth Atom Houseleague
team took on Zurich, Feb. 6.
With Justin Peters earning a shut
out in net for Blyth, it only took
one period to win the game.
Blyth scored three times off the
sticks of Cody Anderson, Ryan
McClinchey and Tyler Kemighan.
Assists went to Nathan Wither
spoon and Trever Koehler.
The second in the series will be
Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m., in
Blyth.
