After a disappointing loss on Friday in Mount Forest, the team planned to take charge Sunday at home, but came up short in a heart-breaker. Bulls lose in overtime Just out of reach The Brussels Novice doesn't have quite enough reach to stop his opponent from Elma- Logan in this action in Brussels on Friday night. The strong visiting squad were too much for the home team, who were muscled to a 16-3 loss. Friday night the Bulls travelled to Mt. Forest to face the Patriots in game one of the first round. The game started out with Mt. Forest jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game before Josh Cressman put the Bulls on the board at 10:07, assisted by Tim Zaba. Then al 2:50 Zaba scored assisted by Grant Jarvis and Ryan Kipfer. In the second period the Patriots scored twice more to take a 6-2 lead. With only 56 seconds remain ing, some Patriot fans took exception to Gary Staples being in the penalty box decided to start a fight with him, which eventually led to police being called. Staples received a two-game suspension. The coach of the Bulls, Charlie Smith had seen enough and let the ref know how poorly he thought he was doing. Smith also received a two-game suspension. In the third Mt. Forest led 8 - 2 before Brussels scored three times in 57 seconds. The first was by Brian McNichol assisted by Jeff Sauve. Then Cressman, scored assisted by Wright. The third was from Darin Alviano, assisted by Wright. Alviano scored again at 2:57, then 10 seconds later Cressmen got his third goal of the game assisted by Wright and Josh Alexander. When the fireworks were over the final score was 13-7 for the Patriots. Sunday afternoon saw the Patriots in Brussels for game two and, with Friday night a bad memory, it was time to show the Patriots what real hockey was like. The Bulls got on the scoreboard first on a goal by Tim Zaba at 13:24 assisted by Mark Trimble. Mt. Forest tied the score at 3:07 and remained tied into the second. Mt. Forest scored once in the second and took a 2-1 lead into the third. At 15:34 on a powerplay, the Patriots made it a 3-1 game before Cressman scored at 9:25 on the powerplay assisted by Alexander and Wright. Bulls coach Ron Livermore pulled the goalie at 1:12 remaining, in favour of the extra attacker and at the 35 second mark Cressman found the net to lie the game at three and send it into an extra period. He was assisted by Wright and Alviano. Overtime is a 10-minute sudden death period, but it didn't last long when at 57 seconds in, Mt. Forest scored to take game two and a two- games-to-none lead in the best of five series. Game 3 for the Bulls will be in Mt. Forest on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. "The Bulls could use some home town support against the Patriots so get your friends together and get to Mt. Forest for the game," said Me Arter. If the Bulls can pull off a win, game four will be in Brussels on Sunday afternoon al 2 p.m. Brussels Novices lose big Elma-Logan Novices were lousy guests on Jan. 31, when they came to Brussels and thoroughly over powered their hosts on the way to a 16-3 score. Scoring honours for the home squad went to Philip Wedow, Brent Wheeler and Matthew White. Assists were creditted to Scott Philips, Adam McClure and Tate Stephenson. The contest three days earlier, was less lopsided with Wingham edging the home squad by 4-3. With plenty of end-to-end-action this was an exciting game. Some good goaltending on the part of Brussels put pressure on the Wing ham team, but this one wasn't meant to be for Brussels, who pulled the goalie in favour of an extra attacker, but to no .avail. Wheeler notched two, while Kyle Gibson scored the third. White and Kyle Procter got the -assists. R.R.S.P. LOANS AVAILABLE AT PRIME RATE Al P Associated Financial Planners Limited CALL Helen M.
