Scouts prepare for special week
Following the Christmas break
Scouting in Blyth is in full gear
again. All sections have plans for
winter events, which started with a
skating party at the arena Jan. 25.
Beavers will be tobogganing.
They are planning to make puppets
in January, and the theme for
February will be 'Stars'.
'Winterfest' will be held Feb. 22
at St. Boniface School in Zurich. It
will be a fun day of winter activi
ties, crafts, and games. Parents are
encouraged to come with their boys
to help and share a good time.
Cubs have had three meetings so
far in 1997. At one meeting they
practised sending and receiving
Morse Code messages. Jan. 21
Nancy Hakkers and Joan Goodall
organized a puppet craft and
Arnold Riley assisted the boys in
making a leather woggle. Each boy
now has a Kub Kar kit, to build and
design into the perfect racing
machine for the February Kub Kar
Rally.
Although the untimely winter
storm on Jan. 17 did cause the
cancellation of the winter camp for
Scouts and Venturers at West
Wawanosh Conservation Area,
Blyth Scouts will have another
opportunity to the test their winter
survival skills when they partici-
pate in a 16 km. ski hike Feb. 1 - 2.
With thoughts of more
favourable warmer times
upcoming, they are also planning to
make canoe paddles.
Rovers are again planning to hold
a chili supper in the spring as a
fundraiser. Many of their Scouting
activities will have to wait until the
girls are finished their first year at
university.
All sections of Scouting and
15 attend UCW meeting
The Blyth UCW met on Tuesday,
Jan. 28 with 15 present.
