The Citizen, 1997-01-29, Page 9United Church elects officers Members of the Calvin Brick United Church gathered al the home of Jessie McGee on Sunday evening, Jan. 19 for their annual meeting. As the regular Sunday morning worship service had been cancelled due to weather condi­ tions, Rev. Mary Jane Hobden called the meeting to order with a short worship service of song, scriptures, prayer and meditation. The business meeting followed with Ivan Dow appointed secretary and Rev. Hobden chairperson. Financial statements were presented and discussed. All agreed to the proposed 1997 pastoral charge budget as well as the Mission and Service Fund objective of $ 11,000. Election of officers was as follows: session, Jim Taylor and Ivan Dow; steward, Jim McGee; trustee, Jim McGee; UCW representative to official board, Joan Pederson; Sunday school superintendent, Joan Vincent; ushers and offering stewards, Cody McGee, Courtney McGee, Heather Black, Amanda Palmer, and Kristen Palmer; lay delegate to presbytery, Monika Bleeker; auditors, Gloria Dow, Margaret Jamieson, Joan Pederson; music committee, Gloria Dow, Jessie McGee; UCW executive president, Joan Pederson; secretary, Elsie Palmer; treasurer, 'Margaret PeeWees win 6th The Wingham Legion PeeWees extended their winning streak to six games on Sunday, Jan. 12 when they travelled to Kurtzville for a game against Wallace Twp. Kent McPherson scored the first two Wingham goals with assists going to Matthew Dinning, Zachary O'Krafta and Curtis Knight. Drew Williams replied for Wallace. In the second period, Wingham extended the lead on goals by Justin Campbell from Dinning and Kent Readman and Patrick Rozen- dal from Geoff Lindsay. Wallace got two goals from Gary Martin. McPherson from Chad Cook added an insurance marker before Matt Williams brought Wallace to within one. Despite late pressure, Wallace was unable to gel the equalizer, resulting in a 5-4 Wingham victory. Wallace showed Wingham some outstanding speed to the outside, while Wingham was able to win without the services of their best defenceman who received a game misconduct for cross-checking from behind. B elgraveThe news from Compiled by Linda Campbell Phone 357-2188 39 enjoy WI lunch It was a lovely winter day on Tuesday, Jan. 21 when 39 Belgrave and area friends met at the Women's Institute Hall at noon. This occasion was the first of five planned potluck meals to be held. Jean Pattison and Nancy Jardin were in charge of setting up for the meal. Rev. Cathrine Campbell offered the blessing and WI President, Audrey Fenton wel­ comed the members and guests. A bounteous potluck meal was enjoyed. After the meal a brief business meeting was held. In the absence of secretary treasurer, Dianna Robinson, Nancy Jardin read both the secretary and treasurer's reports and items of correspondence. It was announced that two caterings for the Bly th Theatre will be held. Isabel Campbell reported on plans for a WI bus trip to Stoney Creek for the May meeting with more details to follow.
