HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1997-01-22, Page 17ANNA IDABEL HOY Anna Idabel Hoy of Clinton died on Sunday, Jan. 12, 1997. She was 74. Born in Brussels, on Dec. 16, 1922, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Mary (Speers) Thomas. She was married to the late Louis W. Hoy. Mrs. Hoy was a homemaker. She was the dear mother of Carolyn Hoy of Clinton, Connie and Sam Worthington of Debert, Nova Scotia, Larry and Milda Hoy of Clinton, Linda and Bryan Lightfoot of Hickson and Wayne and Wendy Hoy of Goderich. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Mary Hollenbeck or Goderich, Dick McQuarrie of Brussels, Eileen Adams of Newmarket, Peter McQuarrie of Brussels, and Marlene and Terry Beer of Clinton. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Eileen Dowson and Phyllis Miller, both of Clinton. Mrs. Hoy was the beloved grandmother of eight grandsons and three great­ grandchildren. Friends were received at the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Home in Clinton on Monday, Jan. 13. The funeral service was held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Jan. 14, with Bill Ferguson officiating. Flowerbearers were Matthew Hoy and Ryan Hoy. The pallbearers were Gord Lightfoot, Greg Lightfoot, Ron. Lightfoot, Tom Lightfoot, Aaron Worthington and Sam Worthington. Interment will be in Clinton Cemetery. MARY EVA MCGILL Mary Eva McGill of Belgrave, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at Wingham and District Hospital. She was 83. She was predeceased by her hus­ band, Joseph McGill (1981), par­ ents, Thomas and Clara (Vanstone) Dickson, her sister, Zora and broth­ er, Carl. Mrs. McGill is remembered by many friends and neighbours in Belgrave and Wingham. Visitation at McBumey Funeral Home, Wingham, was held Jan. 19. Rev. Cathrine Campbell officiated at the funeral service, Jan. 20. Interment was at Brandon Ceme­ tery. Memorial donations to the chari­ ty of your choice would be appreci­ ated as expressions of sympathy. RUTH EILEEN BINDER Ruth Eileen Binder of Brussels, passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital, Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997. She was in her 75th year. She was the beloved wife of Ernest Culley of Brussels and the late Allen Binder, dear mother of Suzanne Normore of RR2, Spring­ field, Gary Binder of British Columbia and the late Grant Binder. Mrs. Binder was the loving grandmother of six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was the loved daughter of Isabelle England and the late James England and dear sister of Bill and Jack England, Betty Humphrey, Marjorie McLeod, Shirley Smith and the late Donald England. Visitation was held at Betts Funeral Home, Brussels, Jan. 17. Rev. Cathrine Campbell officiated at the Jan. 18 service. In remembrance, donations to the Arthritis Society would be appreci­ ated by the family. AGNES GLASSIER Agnes (Davidson) Glassier of New Liskeard, Ontario, passed away Jan. 8, 1997 at Temiskaming Hospital, New Liskeard. She was 82. She was the beloved wife of the late Fred Glassier (1986), dear mother of Peter and Julie of Peter­ borough and Bill and Nicki of Wingham and loving grandmother of Tyson, Andrew and Simon of Wingham. Mrs. Glassier was the sister of Gladys Lott of Ottawa, Jean Robin­ son (Chuck) of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Scott Davidson (Pal) of Port Elgin and sister-in-law of Mary Davidson of Brussels, Lenora Davidson of Blyth, Gertrude Glassier of Midland and Ken Jack- son of Blyth. She was predeceased by brothers, George Davidson of Brussels and Charles Davidson of Blyth and sister, Ethel Jackson of Blyth. Rev. Ivan Dambrowitz conducted the funeral service from St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, New Liskeard, Jan. 11. Interment was at New Liskeard Cemetery. JANET GRAINGER Janet Grainger of Gorrie, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997 at the Fordwich Village Nursing Home, Fordwich, in her 89th year. She was the beloved wife of the late Cecil Grainger (1984) and the loving mother of Alvin and Eleanorc Grainger of Gorrie, Bruce Grainger of Baie D'urfe, Quebec, Ruth and Ian Howes of Nepean, Robert and Karol Grainger of Waterloo and the late Jack Grainger. She was the loved grandmother of nine grand­ children and 15 great-grandchildren and the dear sister of the late Vera Heibein and William Gamble. She rested at the Betts Visitation Centre, Gorrie from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Tuesday. Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiated at the service. Spring interment is in Gorrie Cemetery, Gorrie. In remembrance donations to the Gorrie United Church would be appreciated. G. FINLAY MCGOWAN G. Finlay McGowan of London, died at St. Joseph's Health Centre, London Saturday, Jan. 18, 1997 in his 92nd year. Mr. McGowan is the son of Alexander and Annie (Anderson) McGowan of East Wawanosh Twp. He was bom on the north half of Lot 39, East Wawanosh Twp. and attended SS No 10 McGowan's School. He was the beloved husband of Lorena H. Mr. McGowan was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Ann McGowan, and his brothers, Orval and Hilliard. He was also loved by his grandchildren Lori Jamieson, Gordon and Lynn Jamieson, Marilyn and Arden Holley and his twin great-grandchildren Philip and Olivia Jamieson. Friends were received by the family one hcur prior to the Landfill site woes plague West Wawanosh council A court battle continues for West Wawanosh Twp. over past manage­ ment of the landfill site. Councillors approved a draft let­ ter, at the Jan. 7 session, which will be sent to all witnesses, by the township solicitor, as a means of first contact regarding a civil suit. The suit concerns the possibility of leachates escaping from the landfill site to the neighbouring property. The township was fined $610 in provincial court last July, for two offenses under the W ater Resources Act and Environmental Protection Act. The bylaw governing proceed­ ings of council was amended, changing meetings to twice month­ ly. West Wawanosh council meet­ ing will now be held at 7:30 p.m. every first and third Tuesday, to be completed on or before 10:30 p.m. Clerk-Treasurer Liliane Nolan was instructed to ask Solicitor Dan Murphy if he would act on his own behalf in representing the township in the Ontario Municipal Board hearing regarding the Wightman minor variance. If he is unable to fill the role, Solicitor Mike Mitchell of Stratford will be contacted. Council deemed it imperative that new entrances and upgrades to entrances be the owners' responsi­ bility. The township would main­ tain existing, approved laneways.
