Playing for the Peewees were goaltenders, Zane Davies and James Neeham; defenceman, Jamie Chester, Garrett Skinn, Geoff Lindsay and Jerrad Riley; forwards, Chad Cook, Matthew Dinning, Jake Henderson, Curtis Knight, Kent McPherson, Zachary O'Krafta, Kent Readman and Patrick Rozendal. Devon Moffatt was called up to replace Tyson Glassier who was attending a funeral. Both teams were motivated to win this game as Stephen Twp. had inflicted the only league loss on Wingham and Wingham eliminated Stephen Twp. from the Silver Stick. Wingham played a strong physical first period. Dinning from Ripley, McPherson from O'Krafta and Chester from Dinning gave Wingham a 3-0 first period lead. Stephen Twp. applied (he body in the second period and got goals from Cal Delange and two from Scott Davies. Knight from O'Krafta and McPherson re-established Brussels Tykes settle for split Brussels Tykes settled for a win and a loss in two games over the past week. They took to the ice at home, against Stephen Twp., Jan. 12, and were met with a strong opponent. Stephen Twp. burst out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first and scored two more before Brussels broke the shutout. Chris Corbett found his stride in the second, scoring all four Brus­ sels goals with assists from Jake Verbeek and William King. The effort was not enough as Brussels holds on A well-played game, both offen­ sively and defensively helped Brus seis Novices hold on to a victory over Hensall, Jan. 15. Brussels built up a 4-1 lead through the first two periods with good hustle to get the puck and timely goaltending by Kyle Gibson. Brent Wheeler got on the board late in the first when he was assist­ ed by Adam McClure. Knight from O’Krafta and McPherson, Readman from Cook and Rozendal. Henderson from Campbell, and Cook from Rozendal and Readman built up a 6-3 advantage for Wingham in the second period. Readman completea his hattrick with less than a minute remaining in the game. D. Brutin, B. Karn and B. McClement scored for Hanover. In a league game Saturday afternoon, Wingham embarrassed Clinton 22-1 with everyone on the team contributing to the deluge. Stephen Twp. put three more in the net, taking a 8-4 victory. The contest against Clinton was much more to Brussels' liking as they earned a 5-1 win, Jan. 18. Again, Corbett was the scoring machine for the home team, record­ ing four of the five netters. Chase Chapman assisted on Corbett's first, at 14:19 of the first. Christopher Jutzi racked up Brus­ sels' fourth goal, off the stick of Adam Corbett, at 5:02 of the sec­ ond period. Novices for win later, Kyle Proctor's solo effort bulged the twine. Matthew White and Cory Chap­ man added one each in the final five minutes of the second to take a 4-1 lead. Make sure your snowmobile gets regular maintenance checks and Continued on page 9 Atoms win tourney B With a solid team effort of Don Cherry's Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Hock­ ey, Brussels Atoms pulled off two excellent victories to win the con­ solation trophy at the Seaforth Atom Hockey Toumamnet, Jan. 19. The first matchup was against a tough Watford team, who scored five unanswered goals. The early loss put the squad on the B side, resulting in a close game with Stephen Twp. in the consolation semi-final. Though considered underdogs, Coaches Merle Hocgy and Laurie Campbell said, excellent goaltend­ ing by Brooklyn Wheeler and steady defensive play brought a win. Brussels Tyler Campbell lit the goal light first, scoring at 3:20 of the first. Assisted by Devon Bake and Scott Armstrong, Kyle Stephenson took Brussels to a 2-0 lead a t6;25 of the second. At 6:23, Stephen Twp. slid one by the goalie. Brandon Blake popped the game winner for Brussels at 9:30 of the third. Armstrong earned an assist. Five minutes later, Stephen Twp. drew within one, but was then held off the scoreboard. In the final round, Brussels met Mitchell. The squad, once again, nipped a team considered the favourite. Mitchell took the lead in the sec­ ond period, scoring two in less than 20 seconds. Brussels was held scoreless until 7:46 of the third when Tyler Camp­ bell put one over the line in a solo effort. Tieing the game with only 3:26 remaining, the match went into overtime. Sean Hoegy set up Brandon Blake for the big goal. With only 2:35 left in the second overtime frame, Brandon Blake, off the stick of Stephenson, blasted the winner. Crusaders win 7-3 Brussels Crusaders Steve Fritz and Tom McDonald each scored three while Ron Strome set up five in a 7-3 win Sunday in Drayton. Rob Hamilton, on a great indivi­ dual effort going top comer with a one-handed backhand, also scored for Brussels while Corey McKee added four assists. Geoff Mclsaac, Lance Bloem- berg and Chris Kelly were the only Drayton shooters to beat Crusader goal tender Pat Cronin. The teams traded first-period goals with the Crusaders scoring four unanswered in the second. After Drayton closed to within two, the Crusaders completed the scoring with two in the final four minutes of play. Ladies trounce Ripley Blyth Senior Ladies hockey team doubled their opponent when Rip­ ley came to town, Jan. 12. The Blyth Thunder hit the ice ready to play, bulging the twine three times in the first period. Amber Ruttan struck first on a solo effort at 10:36. Missy Bieman hit three minutes later and Amanda Anderson put in the third at 3:25. Ripley retaliated with two of their own late in the frame, then were held off the board in the sec­ ond. At 8:11, Bieman, with the assis­ tance of Rutlan, popped the fourth goal past the netminder. Up 6-2, Dawn Ward and Bieman aided Ruttan in adding to the score before Ripley regained one point. The combination of Ruttan shooting and Bieman setting up, they tallied the eighth goal for Blyth. Ripley was allowed only one more before the final buzzer. Blyth took the 8-4 win.
