The Barons were in Brussels after tieing the Bulls at home on Friday night. The Brussels team came out on top of this game. Bulls tie 1, win 1 in weekend action Brussels Bantams lose B Last Friday night Hanover Barons came to Brussels for the first of two against the Bulls. The Bulls go on the board at 12:11 of the first period, when Steve Henderson .scored, assisted by Darin Alviano and Ryan Wright. The second period was all Hanover as they scored two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead into the second period intermission. In the third frame Hanover went up by two before Dan Williams at the 7:28 mark scored assisted by Gary Staples and Jason Heipel. With the Bulls on a powdr-play Tim Zaba was able to bulge the twine at 6:06 assisted by Wright and Brian McNichol. The Bulls weren't able to get the lead and the game ended in a tie on a good come-from-behind effort. Sunday, with the Barons back for game number two, it was Hanover that got on the board first. Then at the 6:53 mark Heipel was able to pick the top comer of the Barons net assisted by Josh Alexander and Williams. Then, with Bulls forward Josh Cressman in the penalty box for tripping, the Bulls were able to steal the puck and Wright picked up a shorthanded goal assisted by Alviano and Alexander. With only 51 seconds gone in the second period Dan Sinclair scored assisted by Henderson and Wright. Hanover managed one more goal but that's all as the Bulls came away with only their third win at home. With Dan Balog solid in net on Friday, coming off an injury ad Mike deJong solid in net on Sunday, the Bulls are getting hot for what is hoped will be a successful playoff run. The Christmas break saw the Bulls play seven games with no wins, three losses and four ties to keep them in the hunt for fifth place. The last nine games the Bulls have played sees them with a one win, three loss and five tie record. The Bulls have also made some roster changes adding forwards Josh Cressman and Craig Morrissey to the lineup to provide some needed goal scoring ability and toughness. The next game for the Bulls will be this weekend in Mt. Forest on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. The next home game will be the last regular season game on Sunday, Jan. 19 against Kincardine. Then the Bulls take the next weekend off to prepare for playoffs against either Wingham or Hanover. Hppe to see fans there to cheer on the Bulls. WESTERN JR. Two losses and a victory had the Brussels Bantams on the losing side of the consolation round at the Wallace Optimists Bantam Rep Tournament in Howick Community Centre, Jan. 5. Brussels first game was against Wallace, who glided to a 6-1 victo­ ry. Brussels lone goal was the first of the game when Chad Fischer set up Joel Kellington for the point. Unfortunately it was all Wallace after that, with two in the dying minutes of the first, two in the sec­ ond and two in the third. On the consolation side Brussels met Elora and edged them 2-1. The Atom Reps fired up for win Brussels Atoms Reps were firing on all cylinders, Jan. 11 when they welcomed Howick to town. With a quick start, Brussels attained a 3-0 lead by the end of the first off goals by Brandon Blake, Tyler Campbell and Kyle Stephen­ son. Assisting on the plays were Stephenson, Nic Campbell, Sean Hoegy, Scott Armstrong and Blake. Howick got one past the Brussels goal to trim the lead to two. However, seven and a half min­ utes into the second, Armstrong Blyth Tykes post 2 losses It was two losses for the Blyth Tykes when they met Bayfield and Seaforth this past weekend. The team took to the ice in Bay- field, Jan. 11, and were soon down 2-0 off two early goals by their opponents. Blyth saw the gap widen to four points before Blake Hesselwood popped one over the line at 9:30 of the second. Derek Youngblut Crusaders lose big to 81s Friday night the Brussels Crusaders lost a 10-1 decision to the Palmerston 81's. Due to the weather conditions only nine skaters arrived for the Crusaders. Blyth Novices miss 2 Blyth Novice Bulldogs had two tough losses in hockey action this past week. On Jan. 9, a fired-up Hensail squad shutout the home team 5-0. Coaching staff said, Blyth had some great chances at the Hensail net but failed to get the puck behind the goalie. Blyth's goaltender had a good game making many great saves on Continued on page 9 Girls win 3-0 Belgrave's Junior Girls hosted Kincardine Jan. 11, then shut out their visitors by 3-0. Michelle Nixon scored two to lead the squad to victory. Michelle Cook and Jenna Howatt assisted on the Nixon markers, while Jenni Hopf set up Nicole Proctor for the other Belgrave point. Brooklyn Wheeler continued her strong play between the pipes, shut­ ting out Kincardine for the second time. first two periods were scoreless, then things picked up in the third, when Shawn Engel, off a play by Steve Oldfield, put Brussels on the board. Five minutes later Elora tied it up, but the determined Brus­ sels squad came through with just under seven minutes remaining to gajn the lead. Trevor Wilson made the pass to Matt McLellan, who put it between the pipes. In the final round Brussels faced- off against a strong Port Elgin team, which came out on top of a 6-2 score. With one in the first and two in the second, Port Elgin had a solid lead going into the third. Brussels struck, pushing the puck across the line with the help of Blake and Robbie McClure. Tyler Campbell with the assis­ tance of Nic Campbell and Robbie Semple, bulged the twine for the fifth time at 5:45. Blake, Hoegy and Armstrong added netters before the buzzer sounded, taking the visitors into the third with an 8-1 lead. Assists were earned by Stephen­ son (two), Blake and Nic Camp­ bell. earned the assist. Trying to mount a comeback, Blyth pulled within two less than a minute later, off the stick of Brit­ tany Peters. Bayfield could not be held back, scoring two more before the end of the. frame and holding Blyth to a single? Bayfield ended the game with a 6-3 victory. Sunday saw the squad in Seaforth Greg McNevan, Jamie Williams and Don Leslie each scored twice, with singles by Greg Vader, todd Wilkie, Murray Kaye and Greg McHale. The back and forth action contin­ ued for another few minutes with Brussels' Jason Armstrong, assisted by Fischer, closing the gap once again, only to have Port Elgin answer with one of their own sec­ onds later. Port Elgin had the last word 40 seconds after that, scoring the final point of the game and sealing the win. Though they lost out on the con­ solation trophy, the Brussels Ban­ tams received a plaque for their consistent efforts. The strong Brussels attack could not be stopped by the Howick defense, as three more points were scored in the final frame. Devon Blake scored at the 9:39 mark, Tyler Campbell at 2:51 and Arm­ strong at 1:21 for a hattrick. Devon Blake also earned a point with an assist, as did Rachel Elliott and Stephenson. "The team put together a solid team effort, both offensively and defensively," said Coach Merle Hoegy. for a matchup against a tough team. The home team was on fire in the first, putting two across the line before the 14:00 minute mark. Blyth was down 6-0 midway through the second before a shot by Kendall Whitfield got Blyth on the board. Hesselwood assisted on the play. Unable to slow the Seaforth offense, the Blyth took a 7-1 loss. in the third for Brussels. Palmerston hit the scoreboard early scoring four times in 71 seconds for a 6-0 lead after the first period. Tony Smith took the loss with relief help from newcomer Bill Januszkiewicz. The Crusaders travel to Drayton Sunday afternoon for the start of a five game road trip.
