L. McDonald greets

Pastor talks of wise people
Leona McDonald greeted those
who came out to the service Jan. 5,
at Duff s United.
Rev. James Murray led the
congregation in the Call to
Worship. The first hymn, We Three
Kings, was sung. He mentioned
that it was still Christmas, as
Christmas does last for 12 days.
The choir sang a Christmas hymn
from the new book, 'Voices United'
called He is Born.
Rev. Murray announced that the
UCW will meet Wed., Jan. 8 at
1:30 p.m. at the church. Also the
annual meeting will be Jan. 26 and
the service will start at 11:30 a.m.
He called the young worshippers
forward, then asked each child
what was their favourite Christmas
gift. Things from doodle bears to

hockey nets were the answers. He
explained that the tradition of gift
giving came from the wisemen.
Gift giving is a sign of devotion
and love.
He then showed them his
favourite gift. It was a choker chain
with the letters spelling Dad with a
heart at each end. His children had
given it to him and to him it speaks
of love of family. "We give gifts as
expressions of love," he said.
The sermon was called, 'Which
way do you turn on a Starless
night?' Rev. Murray wondered
what it would be like travelling in
the night and not being able to see
any stars. He then read a story
about the way it could have been
for the three wisemen as they
travelled in search of the star.

The First Noel was sung. The
children came to the front. The
special bag contained Winnie the
Pooh and the owl. It was agreed
that the owl was very wise.
Excellent answers to whom were
wise people were given by the
children. Rev. Ross and the
children closed with prayer before
the children went to their Sunday
School classes.
The children's chorus was sung
and scripture followed. Rev. Ross
read from Ephesians 3, about Paul's
word concerning his ministry for
the Holy Spirit.
He continued from Matthew 2
about the three wisemen who came
to worship the baby Jesus and did
not return home to Herod because
God warned them.
