The sales at Brussels Livestock
for the week ending Jan. 3 were:
fed cattle, 437; cows, 167; veal
calves, 253; lambs and goats, 52;
and stockers, 379.

Woodstock, averaging 1,160 lbs.

All weights of fed cattle sold on a
good steady trade. On Thursday
veal and lambs sold steady. All
classes of stockers sold on a steady
trade.
There were 205 steers on offer
selling from $87 to $92 to the high
of $101. Two steers consigned by
Stenwood Farms, Mitchell, averag
ing 1,365 lbs. sold for an average
of $92.21 with sales to $95.25.
Twenty-two steers consigned by
Alton O'Neil, Lucan, averaging
1,419 lbs. sold for an average of
$87.50 with sales to $94. Eleven
steers consigned by Kada Farms,
Bluevale, averaging 1,321 lbs. sold
for an average of $88.85 with sales
to $94.
Thirteen steers consigned by
Schmidt Brook Farms Inc.,
Woodstock, averaging 1,462 lbs.
sold for an average of $89.42 with
sales to $93.75. Ten steers
consigned by Gordon Hern,

and 900 lbs. and over, $78.50 to
$99.75.
Heifers, 300 - 399 lbs., sold $68
to $84; 400 - 499 lbs., $60 to $86;
500 - 599 lbs., $60 to $90; 600 -
699 lbs., $53 to $105; 700 - 799
lbs., $67 to $84; 800 - 899 lbs., $57
to $81; and 900 lbs. and over,

The 1997 Ontario Variety Trial
reports are now available. Reports
on corn, soybeans, edible beans,
forages, and cereals are all
available. The reports summarize
performance trials conducted
across the province.
Also available are reports
presented at the Huron Soil and
Crop Improvement Association
annual meeting. These include com
and soybean strip trials conducted
in Huron and Perth Counties. Over
230 corn and 60 soybean trials
were summarized for Huron and
Perth Counties.
Copies of reports may be
obtained by contacting the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and
Rural Affairs office in Clinton
