Silver Tops enjoy after-lunch harmonica music
On Dec. 11 at 12 noon grace was
sung and the Silver Tops enjoyed a
turkey dinner with all the
trimmings, a salad bar and
delicious dessert. This meal was
served by Maxine Seers and her
helpers Rhonda Bruxer and Carol
Reinink. The hall was beautifully
decorated and Christmas music
played throughout the meal.
At the end of the dinner Ernie
Durnin favoured with his
harmonica music, which is always
enjoyed. A Christmas questionnaire

opened the Sunday service at Knox
United.
Rev. Paul Ross welcomed all and
gave the announcements. The
McDowell family lit the Advent
Candle. The song The Holly and
The Ivy was sung during the
lighting. Rev. Ross continued with
prayer and the assurance of God's
forgiveness.
The children were called to the
front for their conversation. Rev.
Ross had candy canes in his
mystery bag. He spoke to the
children on the resemblance to a
shepherd's staff. They must
remember, he said that Christ is
called the Lord's shepherd. He
continued by inverting the candy
cane — the letter J for Jesus.
A short prayer was given before
the children went downstairs during
the singing of the children's chorus.
The hymn The Advent of Our
God was sung. Scripture was read
from Isaiah 61, where he told the
people that God had appointed him
to preach, to comfort, to praise and
to rejoice as His servant.
The service continued with
passage from John I with John
saying that he was sent to proclaim
Christ's coming and how he felt
unworthy of such an honour.
The hymn Jesus Came, the
Heavens Adoring was sung.
The sermon was "Turning Blue,
Christmases White". Rev. Ross
spoke about illness, death, grief,
divorce and worry causing a blue
Christmas. However, by taking
these things to God, he said, will
come peace. "God has the power
and faith in Him is important. We
should not be self-centered and
think only of ourselves. Our
prayers should be for others, too."
God is always present and can
make the blue turn white, Rev.
Ross said. He prayed for all who
need help and thanked God for His
loving care. The Lord's Prayer was
said in unison.
The offering was received,

A number of Auburn and Blyth
friends enjoyed a bus trip to
Hamilton for the Geritol Follies
Christmas Show, with guest stars
from The Lawrence Welk Show.
They were the operatic tenor, Joe
Feeney, Henry Cuesta, the clarinet
and Bobby and Elaine, those
unbelievable dancers. However, the
Follies were excellent too in both
their singing and dancing. They
certainly don't show their age.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10 Ell and Kay

present. It was a very enjoyable day

handmade Christmas gift.
Margaret Hildebrand welcomed
all and thanked Maxine for the
delicious dinner. Bernice Anderson
and Marion Haggitt will be January
convenors. Regrets were expressed
for those who were unable to
attend.
Carols were sung with Marjorie
McDougall as pianist and Ethel
Ball leading.

delightful Christmas story. On
Christmas a priest had just held
Mass. Then he toured the church to
make sure that everything was
ship-shape. Returning to the front
he was admiring the nativity scene
when he suddenly realized that the
Baby Jesus was not in the manger.
He looked everywhere, then he and
the caretaker looked. He called Fs
assistant and they finally decided
that Baby Jesus must have been
stolen. The priest was very upset as
there had to be a Jesus there for
Christmas morning service.
He finally decided to go for a
walk. It was a lovely evening with
stars and a light snowfall.
As he walked he saw a young
boy whom he knew was from One

to speak to the boy and admire his
new wagon. Suddenly he realized
that Jesus wrapped in a blanket,
was in that red wagon. He was
furious and spoke sharply to the
boy accusing him of theft. At first
the boy looked frightened, then
interrupted saying, "But Father I
did not steal Jesus. I had told God
that if he would get me a new
wagon that I would give Baby
Jesus a ride in it."
This was a thought-provoking
speech and thoroughly enjoyed.
Ell Lapp had the video ready.
'The Christmas Wish," with its
