Interest at 1-1/4% per month or any part thereof will be charged after this due date. Please note that people who have acquired properties and have not received a tax bill should contact the Municipal Office. White Tax Collector Village of Brussels VILLAGE OF BRUSSELS PUBLIC NOTICE PUBLIC NAME CHANGES SECTION 210(111) OF THE MUNICIPAL ACT, R.S.O. 1990 Notice Is hereby given that Brussels Council Intends to pass a by-law to change the name of public roads which have been previously named. The public road name changes are Intended to facilitate the County-wide municipal addressing system which Is required to be in place prior to the implementation of the 9-1-1 Emergency Response System for ambulance, fire and police services throughout the County of Huron. The proposed street name changes are as follows: 1) Thomas Street, from Turnberry Street, west to the Morris Township border will be changed to King Street 2) John Street, from Mary to Alexander will be changed to Mechanics Street 3) Anne Street, from the Maitland River, north to Queen Intersection will be changed to Stretton Street. 4) Queen Street between Halliday Street and Mill Street (County Road 16) will be changed to Halliday Street. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1996 5Rs ends year with surplus Number 1 citizen It was a special day at Brussels United Church on Sunday when Audrey Cardiff, left, was presented with her plaque as Brussels Citizen of the Year. Making the presentation is Sheila Richards, a North Huron Citizen board member. Included in the tributes to Audrey was one from her daughter Janet in Lethbridge, Alta. Following the service a reception was held in the church basement. Rebekahs plan for Santa's visit Morning Star Rebekah Lodge met in the Lodge Hall with a good attendance present. The meeting opened in the usual manner with Noble Grand Laura Barbour presiding. The secretary's and treasurer's reports were given followed by the business. Group meets at nurse's home Marguerite Thomas invited the BMG Diabetic group to her home for the November meeting. Nelva Scott welcomed everyone and thanked Marguerite for inviting the group, to celebrate her birthday. Everyone joined in singing Happy Birthday. Bill Glassier, therapist, gave an informative talk on the body joints -- how they are self lubricating and should be used, to keep them working. Correct exercise is important. It is two years since the group was formed and Marguerite read the minutes of the first meeting. The treasurer reported a balance of $1,935.02. The December meeting will be a pot luck at Melville church, Dec. 10 at noon. Twenty-two members heard the yearly reports from Secretary Mary Lou Ruttan, for finance Sharon Freeman, from the board Caroline Kernaghan, from management Anne Exel, from auditors Gertie Kellington, from staff Joan Jacobs, Marie Bernard and Nancy Brewer. Appreciation was shown for retiring board members Nancy Exel, Carolyn Kernaghan and Sharon Freeman as well as retired manager Wendy Martin. Each of the Brussels churches were gifted with $100 as the year finished in a profit position after trimming expenses and cut staff hours. Total sales for the year were just over $37,000. Most articles arc less than $2. The 96/9 7 board chair is Trixie Pfieffer with Betty Robson, Cathrine Campbell, Ruth Lowe, Mary Lou Ruttan, Linda Garland and Betty Graber as members. Members noted their pride in 5R's . as a relevant business on Brussels main street that encourages recycling and social awareness. Members are asked to bring food articles to the next meeting for the food bank. Vice Grand Margaret Tremblay of the Rebekah Assembly of Toronto, members of Clinton and Exeter lodges will be guests at the next meeting. A banquet will be held in the United Church to honour Vice Grand Sis. Tremblay prior to the meeting. Members will decorate a float for the Santa Claus parade. The Christmas party will be held on Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. There will be a gift exchange and members will reveal their Sunshine Sisters. Sis. Rene Richmond won the poinsettia. NOTICE BRUSSELS HISTORY BOOK Council of the Village of Brussels has selected the name for the History Book from a combination of entries In the "Name the History Book" Contest. The name of the book will be "Our Story, from Ainleyville to Brussels, 1872-1997". Betty Shaw, Lori Pipe and Marg Black will receive complimentary copies for their submissions. The Brussels History Book will not be printed in time for Christmas 1996. Therefore the advance sale price has been extended until January 1997.
