`Risky Business', title of Blyth United sermon
It was Pentecost 25, the last
Sunday of the church year at Blyth
United Church Nov. 17. Greeters
were Bev McDonald and Lisa
Whitfield. Ushers were Stephen
and Joan Caldwell and Evelyn
Caldwell and Marion Young.
Michael Duthie, director of music
was organist.
Rev. Steve Huntley, conducted
the service, opening with greetings,
call to worship, welcome and
announcements. This was followed
by the opening hymn, Immortal,
Invisible, God only Wise.
For the children's time, Rev.
Huntley had a sign with the words,
"The End'". He asked them what it
meant. He told them that

KEN HAMMOND
Mr. Ken Hammond of RR 1,
Monkton passed away at Listowel
Memorial Hospital on Monday,
Nov. 11, 1996 in his 78th year.
Surviving is one sister Marie and
her husband Ross Stephenson of
RR 1, Ethel; one brother Alex
Hammond of RR 1, Monkton; two
nieces Donna and her husband
Robert Mitchell of RR 2, Dublin,
Jean and her husband Murray
Whytock of Teeswater; two
nephews Jim and Kathy Stephen-
son, Les and Susan Stephenson, all
of RR 1, Ethel. He is also survived
by 13 great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hammond was predeceased by
his parents, the late Stanley
Hammond and the former Laura
Speiran.
Visitation was held at Peebles
Funeral Home, 141 John St.,
Atwood on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Rev. Todd McDonald conducted
funeral and committal service on
Thursday at 2 p.m.
Internment was at Elma Centre
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim and Les
Stephenson, Murray Ohm, Tony
Tollenaar, Verne Smith, and Ken
Dewar.
Flower bearers were Donna
Mitchell and Jean Whytock.
Donations to Monkton United
Church or charity of one's choice,

JOHN MURRAY CAMERON
John Murray Cameron of 7 Balv-
ina Drive, Goderich, passed away
at Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital, Goderich, Nov. 13, 1996.
He was 62.
A lead analyst for Pitney-Bowes
in Toronto, John Cameron was
born in Blyth, to the late Robert
John Cameron and Verne Scrim-
geour (Mrs. Charles Dakin). He
was the beloved husband of Vere-
na (Gudel), dear father of Christa
Cameron and John Hunter of Blyth
and loving grandfather of Cameron
Hunter.
He was predeceased by one sis-
ter, Nancy Jean Cameron.
A private family service was held
Saturday, Nov. 16, at Tasker
Chapel, Beattie-Falconer Funeral
Home, Blyth. Rev. Stephen Hunt-
ley of Blyth United Church, offici-
ated.
Pallbearers were John Hunter,
Brent Scrimgeour, John Morritt,
Brian Marks, Don Scrimgeour and
Jack Turvey.
Interment was at Blyth Union
Cemetery.

The New Testament lesson, taken
from I Thessalonians 5: 1-11 was
read by Debbie Hakkers with the
gospel reading from Matthew 25:
14-30 delivered by the minister.
"Risky Business" was the title of
the sermon. Rev. Huntley said
people don't know for certain from
ARCHIE MANN
Mr. Archie Mann, of Listowel
and formerly of Moncrieff passed
away Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996 at
Listowel Memorial Hospital. He
was in his 95th year.
Mr. Mann was born Feb. 11,
1902. He was the son of the late
William Mann and the former
Naomi Clark of Grey Twp. He
married Pearl Bowes on June 18,
1930. They farmed near Moncrieff,
moving to Listowel in 1978.
A self-taught musician, Mr.
Mann was a former member of the
Brussels Pipe Band. He played the
fiddle with the CKNX Barn Dance
along with Don Robertson and the
ranch boys, while travelling
throughout Ontario. He was
inducted into the Fiddle Country
Heritage Club in 1990.
He was a member of Calvary
United Church, Listowel, Monkton
100F #420 since 1928 and formerly
served on Grey Twp. Council.
He is survived by a daughter,
Mrs. Marion Roberts of Listowel, a
son, Robert Mann and his wife Pat
of Clinton, daughter-in-law Mrs.
Mary Beth Mann of Waterloo, five
granddaughters and six great-
grandchildren, as well as nephews
and nieces.
He was predeceased by his wife,
Pearl in 1988, a son William Mann
in 1986, a son-in-law Harold
Roberts in 1995, brothers George
and William Mann and sisters
Jessie Mann and Mrs. Roy (Flora)
McCreight.
Visitation was on Tuesday from
Peebles Funeral Home, Atwood
from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m.
Funeral service was at Calvary
United Church, Listowel on
Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. George
Russell conducted the service and
committal.
Internment at Elma Centre
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Scott McLean,
Charles Harrison, Jim Mann, Bruce
Mann, Dale Smith and Jack Cox.
Flower bearers were: Mrs. Neil
(Lorrie) Baker, Mrs. Rick (Shelley)
Scott, Miss Kendra Mann.
Pipers were Bill Robb of
Listowel and Pat Wilson of
Atwood.

United Church Memorial Fund,
Listowel, or other charitable
organizations of one's choice.

maxims, "Look before you leap"
and "He who hesitates is lost." The

don't take risks, but rather sit on
what they have, the parable tells
them what they have will be taken
from them.'

work, in family, at church or play?
With whom do you risk, friend,
neighbour? What about God? Do

Darlene Hemingway and
Michelle Lichty provided special
music at the Sunday service at
Brussels Mennonite Fellowship on
Sunday, Nov. 17. Anne Heming-
way was pianist and Mark Hiller
was song leader. Lloyd Koch was
worship leader.
The guest speaker was Harold
Schilk, from First Mennonite
Church in Kitchener. He used
I Kings 19: 1-16 as his text for the
message entitled, 'Silently Waiting'.
The junior youth, (Grades 7-8)
attended Junior Youth Breakaway,
at Jacob Hespler Secondary School
in Kitchener, or Sunday, Nov. 17.
Erla Koch took the children to this
event.
Next Sunday, Pastor Gordon
Bauman will bring the message.

Following the sermon, a
dedication ceremony was held for
the new antependia. Albert
Wasson, chairman of the official
board, assisted Rev. Huntley,
dedicating the antependia in loving
memory of Gordon Mason, Gordon
Caldwell, Ronald Gross, Melda
McElroy, Roy Easom, and Molly
Grant. As part of the ceremony, the
choir sang Glory to the Lamb with
Michael Duthie accompanying on
the keyboard.
The beautiful flowers decorating
the church were from the funeral of
John Cameron, placed in loving
memory by the families.
