Madill Secondary School on Tuesday, Nov. 19 during National Drug Awareness Week. The theme is "choices, conse- quences and responsibility". With the assistance of peer mentors, the OPP and HAARC, the Health Fair will promote an active lifestyle and encourage youth to choose drug- free activities over drugs, alcohol and tobacco use. Teacher Jerry McDonnell said the province is moving to the four years of secondary school with co- op programs because it has stated that the extra year is a "waste of time." He said the government has said students learn more outside of the school setting. In Ontario, the activities for this week are co-ordinated by the Ontario Drug Awareness Partner- ship, a multi-agency coalition which is involved with drug awareness programming through- out the year. We then departed for the long bus ride home and arrived back at 6:45 p.m. All students enjoyed this historical trip. Marguerite Thomas invited the group to her home for the Nov. 20 meeting. The executive will meet at Nelva's home Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Nelva introduced the guest speaker, Sarah Chapman, who was diagnosed diabetic at age three. She told how the disease had affected her and how they had coped. One of her high school classmates studied the symptoms and reactions of diabetics, so she could help her.
