Rev. Huntley
talks of Nov. 11
Rev. Stephen Huntley, conducted
the service at Blyth United Church
Nov. 10. Director of music,
Michael Duthie, was organist.
Greeters were Bcv Snell and Lisa
Whitfield. Ushers were Marion
Young, Patricia, Kendra Brigham
and Lois van Vliet.
Rev. Huntley opened the service
with greetings, welcome and
announcements. The opening hymn
Stand Up and Bless the Lord was
followed by Prayer of Confession.
For the children's time, Rev.
Huntley had a poppy and flag. He
explained Remembrance Day
saying Nov. 11 has been set aside
each year to remember all the
people who died in the war. He
added that Jesus gave his life for
them too.
A minute of silence followed.
The choir anthem was a solo,
And God Shall Wipe Away All
Tears sung by Christa Cameron
accompanied by Mr. Duthie on
piano.
Following the New Testament
lesson from Thessalonians 4: 13-18
and the Gospel reading from
Matthew 25: 1-13, Rev. Huntley
delivered a sermon entitled, "As
Those Who Have Hope!"
He said last weekend provided a
startling reality that winter will
soon be here. Everything in life has
its seasons. Whatever lives, dies,
"We feel sad because the fall
reminds us of the truth built into all
of life — life is terminal! All things
and people move towards death. It
sounds rather bleak and hopeless.
The poppies, too, he said reminds
us of Remembrance Day.
Recollections of names and faces
who gave their lives are prevalent
in many minds. It also reminds of
loved ones who have died recently.
"Yes we do grieve. We
experience the pain of separation,
but we also have hope, hope that
comes contained in our experiences
of our relationship with God. We
must see beyond that brick wall to
a world of resurrection." flow
Great Thou Art was the closing
hymn.
Next Sunday, the altar and pulpit
antependia will be dedicated.

said Lhat he was a Hebrew, but
wrong when he said that he
worshipped God, because he did
not obey Him. Even professing
Christians can become willful.
Then there is the Downward
Way. "Jonah went 'down' to
Joppa." When one runs away from
God the direction is down. All arc
born on the broad way that leads
down to death. The narrow way
leads up to life.
Jonah came eventually to the
Repeated Way. When he prays and
repents God sends him again to
Nineveh. He would have saved
himself much trouble if he had
gone God's way in the beginning.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth
and the life..." Are you walking in
Jesus' way?
The Missionary Church women
had charge of the evening service.
Since it was Remembrance Day
weekend, Russel Cook of Blyth
related his experiences while
overseas during World War II.
Doran Rolston and her daughter
Linda Curl sang a duet.
