The Brussels Crusaders served
notice that, although winless in
1996, they are not to be counted out
as they skated to a 5-5 tie against
the undefeated Arthur Tigers.
Brian Campbell and Dean
Wheeler scored two each with Tom
McDonald adding the single for
Brussels, while Darryl Rooney
(two), Tom O'Donnell, Frank
Goetz, and Glenn Watt replied for
Arthur.
The Crusaders held a 2-1 first
period lead, but trailed 4-3 after 40
It was a high-scoring, shootout
when Brussels travelled to Blyth to
take on the Novice squad, Nov. 7,
in WOAA play.
After finding their stride through
the opening minutes of first period,
both teams began to rack up the
scores. Brussels got on the board
first, but did not hold the lead as
Brett Bean and Josh Albrechtas
answered with two goals in the fol-
lowing three minutes. Brussels tied
the score in the final two minutes,
only to see Albrechtas pop one in
just as the buzzer sounded.
Brussels pushed the score to a 3-
3 tie when they scored with eight
minutes remaining in the second. It
was a seesaw battle throughout the
frame as the squad traded goals.
Luke Anderson scored two for
The Belgrave Junior Girls hock-
ey team settled for a split of their
weekend games when they took on
Walkerton and Kincardine.
The first matchup, Nov. 9, saw
Walkerton come to town.
Though it was a strong game by
the team, they were downed 3-0 for
the second time in as many games,
against Walkerton.
The squad continues to improve,
displaying great sportsmanship and
hard work.
Kristen Palmer had a terrific
game, playing in net for the first

The Belgrave Intermediate Girls
hockey team had a busy week with
three games.
The squad had to settle for a 2-2
tie against Milverton, Nov. 2, after
falling to a 2-0 deficit after only
one period.
The team would not give up,
inching their way to within one in
the second, off a goal by Sherri
Robinson.
Heidi Meier tied the game with

minutes. Campbell's second of the
game came with two minutes
remaining to force a scoreless five-
minute overtime. Goaltender Pat
Cronin, who held the Crusaders in
the game, recorded two assists as
well as the tie.
The Crusaders next home game
is Saturday at 7:30 against
Palmerston. The 81s have reached
into the Brussels Bulls system,
signing ex-juniors Greg McNevan,
Brian Zabel, Jamie Williams, Jason
Camm, Scott Vader, Greg Vader,
Brett Long and Murray Kaye.
Blyth with Bean earning an assist.
Going into the final frame with a
5-5 tie, the teams put on a strong
attack. The teams stayed even, not
allowing the other to take more
than a two-goal lead throughout.
Blyth, up 9-7 with less than a
minute and a half to go, managed to
hold off the Brussels attack, letting
only one more shot slide over the
line.
Topping off his five-goal out-
burst, Anderson added three in the
third as well as an assist. The other
goal was scored by Bean, who also
earned a second assist.
It was an evenly played game,
with end-to-end action throughout.
Darcey Cook played well in the

time.
The Nov. 10 game was much
more positive for the team, as they
took Kincardine 3-1.
Nicole Procter and Michelle
Cook teamed up for all three Bel-
grave goals, Proctor tapping in two
while Cook assisted. They reversed
roles for the third tally.
They came out flying right from
the first, showing tight checking
and aggressive play. All team
members skated hard, denying Kin-
cardine on offensive attempts.
Brooklyn Wheeler played an
exceptional game as netminder,
making many difficult saves.
Another successful weekend sees
the Brussels Bulls come out with
two more well-deserved wins. The
coaching staff has been able to
teach a system of playing that has
tapped the hockey abilities of the
Bulls players who are responding
by playing good hockey and now
have four wins in a row to show for
their hard work.
On Saturday night, the Wingham
Ironmen were in town to take on
the Bulls. The Ironmen scored first
at 10:12 of the first period and took
a 1-0 lead into the first
intermission. The only scoring in
the second period was also by the
Ironmen when at 14:51 they scored
on a power-play and took a 2-0
lead into the second intermission.
The third period was all Bulls
when at 13:08 Josh Alexander
picked up a rebound off the
Winghan goalie and bulged the
twine, assisted by Ryan Wright. At
12:18 the Bulls tied the game on a
goal by Darin Alviano, assisted by
Wright and Steve Henderson. Then
31 seconds later Gary Staples
drilled a shot into the top corner
from the top of the circle on the left
side to get his first of the year. He
was assisted by Grant Jarvis and
Tim Zaba.
The fourth goal was the prettiest
this year when Wright unassisted
went in and deked the goalie, held
on to the puck for an eternity then
flipped a nice fadeaway shot into
the open net.
Four unanswered goals by the
Bulls gave them the win in a nice
come-from-behind effort to give
them three in a row.
On Sunday afternoon the Bulls
travelled to Hanover to take on the
Barons for the first time this year.
Brussels opened the scoring, when
at 7:15 Dan Williams scored
assisted by Jason Heipel and Jarvis.
With 53 seconds left in the first
period Hanover tied the game at
one and that's how it stayed into the
first intermission.
Brussels again scored first in the
second period when Zaba scored,
assisted by Staples and Brett
Fischer. Hanover once again tied
the score on a powerplay.
At 3:54 Zaba got his second of
the game when he scored on a feed
from Heipel and Williams.
The Bulls took a two point lead
when they got a powerplay goal of
their own. Wright scored, assisted
by Henderson and Dan Sinclair.
This allowed the Bulls to take a
lead into the second intermission.
The Bulls added to the lead at
18:56 when Sinclair scored assisted
by Williams. Hanover scored two
goals with less than five minutes to
go in the game, but it wasn't
enough as the Bulls hung on to win
the game 5-4.
Dan Balog was strong in net for
the Bulls on Sunday, while Mike
deJong stopped the Ironmen on
Saturday night.
The Bulls have added Jeff Sauve
to their roster this week. Jeff is a
left-winger from Bayfield who
played with the Seaforth
Centennaires last year. Good luck
Jeff!
The Bulls play one game this
weekend when the Wiarton Wolves
come to town for a 2 p.m. start at
the BMG Community Centre.
Bantams lose
The Zurich Bantams showed no
mercy when Brussels travelled
there on Nov. 4, handing their visi-
tors a 9-2 trouncing.
Brussels two goals were scored
in the first, but were unable to
break through the Zurich defense
anymore. Both markers, by Joel
Kellington and Chad Fischer were
scored unassisted.
