The two teams were facing off in a tournament game in Brussels on Saturday. After losing to Blyth 6- 0, Friday night, Brussels came out on the down side of this match-up too, by a score of 4-1. Winners of the tournament, which was sponsored by the Optimist Club were the Milverton Royals who beat Drayon 3-1 for the championship, while the consolation trophy went to Shallow Lake who defeated Clinton. There were 16 teams participating. Thedford and Ilderton played an excellent game with Thedford coming out on top and on its way to the championship game. Drayton proved to be a better team than Chesley and moved on to the consolation final game. Lucan and Beeton played a very exciting game. The regular game ended in a tie and sudden death overtime had to break it. After seven minutes of play, Lucan scored, broke the tie and moved onto the championship game against Thedford, two rival teams in their league. Elma-Logan left the tournament with the consolation trophy, medallions, pucks and big smiles on their faces. The final game was another exciting and closely matched game. Mulvey. That was all the Bulls needed to win their second game in a row and get four points on the weekend. BULLS NOTES: Wright had a seven-point weekend with two hat- tricks and an assist Sinclair had a five-point weekend with two goals and three assists. Zaba and Alexander both had four-point weekends. Fifteen different point getters were on the game sheet for the Bulls against Walkerton, a real team effort. This weekend the Bulls are at home to face the Wingham Iron- men for an 8:30 start on Saturday night. Then on Sunday the team travels to Hanover to face the Barons for a 1:30 p.m. start. In the final minute of play, Thedford pulled their goalie in order to come up with the goal they needed to tie the game. They played as hard as they could, but Lucan managed to send a puck down the ice and between the goal posts to make the final game 4-2 for Lucan. Lucan very happily left the arena in high spirits carrying the championship trophy and wearing their shiny medallions. All teams received pucks with a Bulls head and labelled with Brussels Minor Hockey Novice Tournament. Tournament organizers appre- ciate those who sponsored ice time, assisted with the purchase of the pucks and or gave up their Saturday, to spend the day in the arena. It was a very successful tournament. Bulls play Ironmen, Barons this weekend Brussels Minor Hockey Novice Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 26 was very successful. The games started at 8 a.m. and finished up at 7:30 p.m. Thedford and Brussels started off the tournament. Brussels headed to the B side and Thedford to the A. Ilderton then met Elma-Logan which resulted in Merton going to the A side. Lucan then played off against Chesley in a fast-paced game. Lucan went on to play on the A. Beeton and Drayton played at 11:30 and ended with Beeton playing against Lucan. The next round of play proved to be very fast and well-matched games. Walkerton scored the next two goals but Zaba found net at 7:21 on a goal assisted by Durand and Sinclair. Walkerton rounded out the scoring and took a 4-2 lead to the first intermission. In the second period Walkerton scored first to make the score 5-2, but the Bulls would not lay down in this one. At 14:10 Andy Agar scored, assisted by Brett Fischer and Dan Williams, then, at 2:27 on a two-man advantage power-play, Brian McNichol scored his first of two on the day on a feed from Jason Heipel and Alexander. With a Walkerton player still in the penalty box Wright at 1:59 got his .second of game assisted by Henderson and Ryan Kipfer. The fourth Bull's goal in a row was scored at 15:58 of the third period on a goal by McNichol, assisted by Fischer and Agar. The Bulls scored their fifth goal in a row to take the lead from a still-in- shock Blackhawk team on a goal at 13:57 by Wright to give him the hat-trick assisted by Alviano and Alexander. Walkerton was able to find net at 4:45, but at 2:44 of the third, Williams got an insurance marker assisted by McNichol and Brad If heart and desire alone could win hockey games Brussels Crusaders would have returned from Shelburne with two points. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Muskies simply skated their way to an 8-2 win over the eight skaters and two goaltenders in Crusader Blue. Shelburne broke a 1-1 tie with six seconds remaining in the first, and increased it to 7-2 after two periods. Kevin Greco, Mark Armatage, and Dean Baird each scored two for Shelburne, with singles by Rob Stinson and Sean McCallum. Tom McDonald scored both Brussels goals, while Pat It was a battle as Blyth and Brus- sels Bantams see-sawed to a 3-3 tie after a contest Oct. 28 in Blyth. The home team struck with a lone goal in the first, then sprung to a two point lead in the early min- utes of the second period. The 'remaining players who marvelled to Shelburne included Jeff Earl, Corey McKee, Rob Hamilton, Ron Strome, Nick Hulley, Dean Wheeler and Chad Nicholls. The Crusaders' next game is at home Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. against the first place Arthur Tigers. one. ..Blyth came back to widen the margin once again, then Fischer retaliated with one of his own, assisted by Mike Cooper. As the second period ticked by, Cooper set up Matt McLellan for the tie- maker. Neither team managed to sneak any through the pipes in the third. On defence were: Chase Chapman, William King, Andrew Baker, Wade Stephenson, Ryan Jutzi and Jordan Campbell. In net for Brussels was Tom Cronin, who made some timely saves, but Goderich's offence just kept on coming. The final score was 9 - 4 for Goderich.
