The hosts were defeated 5-1. Bulls notch 2 wins in weekend action power play at 4:43 of the first, Wright got his first of three on the night, assisted by Sinclair and Josh Alexander. Wiarton answered back with 59 seconds remaining in the first, but the Bulls were able to take a 3-1 lead to the dressing room. The second period was all Brussels when a minute and 10 seconds in, Ryan Wright picked up his second goal on a feed from Darin Alviano. Sinclair made the game 5 - 1, assisted by Zaba at the 11:15 mark. At 6:47 Wright got the hat-trick assisted by Alexander. This gave the Bulls a 6-1 lead heading into the third. Wiarton scored two goals in the third at 19:15 and 14:03 to make it a 6-3 game. Sinclair added one more at 5:51 assisted by Durand to give him two goals of the night. The final score of the game was 7-3 to give the Bulls their first win of the year and put Wiarton back in the basement! Sunday afternoon saw the Bulls travel to Walkerton to take on the Blackhawks for a 1 p.m. start. A Blyth Atom takes the glide out of this attacking Elma- Logan player during the first period action of a contest in the annual Brussels Optimist tournament this past Saturday. Blyth defeated Brussels on Friday night to make it to this game, which they won. They then played the semi-final against Drayton, but lost. Blyth Atom Rep season gets underway The Blyth Atom Rep team opened their schedule on Wednesday on the road in Zurich. Blyth built a 5-1 lead going into the third period and hung on for a 5-3 victory. Cole Stewart and Kirk Stewart each scored twice, while Micha Loder added a single for Blyth. Assists went to Andy Toll, two; Cole Stewart, two; Kirk Stewart, two; Ryan McClinchey, T. J. Marks and Trever Koehler. Eric Jarrett and Justin Peters combined a strong effort in the Blyth net. The Atom team competed in the Optimist Club 23rd annual Atom Hockey tournament in Brussels this past weekend. The Blyth team opened the tournament with a game Friday night against the home town Brussels. Blyth scored two first period goals. The score remained the same entering the third period. Blyth scored four unanswered goals in the final frame and coasted to a 6-0 win. Jarrett and Peters came up with big saves when needed to register the shutout, Goal scorers for Blyth were Kirk Stewart, three; Loder, two and Cole Stewart. Assists were credited to Cole Stewart, three; Toll, Cody Anderson, Koehler and Mike Bean. In game two, Blyth met Elma- Logan. Blyth came out skating and built a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period. The teams traded goals in the second period and played a scoreless third period to give Blyth a 5-1 win. Cole Stewart scored twice for Blyth, with singles going to Loder, Tyler Kernighan and Kirk Stewart. Cole Stewart picked up the lone assist. • Again Jarrett and Peters provided strong goaltending. Blyth then moved into a semi- final match against Drayton. Drayton scored two games in each perickl and won the game 6-0. Blyth had many chances, but could not finish off plays in this losing effort. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1996 This past weekend's Jr C action saw the Brussels Bulls come away with two well deserved wins. Win number one was Friday night, when the Bulls travelled to Wiarton to play the Wolves. The Bulls were looking to avenge last Sunday's loss to Wiarton which put them in last place in the league. The first Bulls' goal came at the 12-minute mark of the first period, when Steve Henderson bulged the twine on a feed from Ryan Wright and Dan Sinclair. Just 55 seconds later the Bulls took a 2-0 lead on a blast from the point by Grant. Jarvis, assisted by Mark Durand and Tim Zaba at 11:05.
