The Wiarton Wolves goalie pounces on the puck before two Brussels Bulls forwards
manage to clear it and force it by him for a goal. The action was heavy on Sunday as the
Bulls fought for their first win of the season against the visiting team.
Bulls in the basement
The Brussels Novice squad met
strong competition in both league
play and a weekend tournament,
suffering three losses.
With a much-impioved effort by
the entire team, Brussels matched
Milverton goal for goal through the
first two periods of their. Oct. 25
contest. However, Milverton took
the lead in the third, topping Brus-
sels 7-3.
Andrew McDonald made many
excellent saves in net.
Brussels goals were scored by
Matthew White, Philip Wedow and
Brent Wheeler. Kyle Proctor
The Blyth Juveniles got their
WOAA season underway with a
narrow victory over a hosting Luc-
know team on Oct. 26.
Coach Neila Salverda credits
goalie Chris Bromley with keeping
the team in the game for the 3-2
victory. "He made some great saves
in the first and second period to
hold the (Lucknow) team back."
Blyth got on the board in the first
with a point by Mark Johnston,
assisted by Chris Stewart and Scott
Davidson.
While their goalie helped them
keep the opponents off the board,
Blyth couldn't manage to widen the
gap any further. Then in the third,
Lucknow tied it, when Chad Hiller
finally snuck one by Bromley.
Stewart gave them back the lead,
however, three minutes later only
eathed three assists with Scott
Philips adding one of his own.
The competition was even
tougher in the Brussels Novice
Tournament held on the weekend.
In their first game, Brussels met
an overpowering Thedford team,
coming out on the short end of a
17-0 loss.
Thedford eventually went on to
the A final, losing to Lucan.
• In the second match, Brussels did
not fare any better, losing to Elma
Logan, 19-1. Wheeler scored the
lone goal.

to have Lucknow's Chris DeJong
tie it before a minute's play had
gone by.
Then with just six seconds left on
the clock, Stewart set the table for
Mike Salverda to score the winning
goal.
Coach Salverda was pleased with
the team's effort despite the fact
that some of the players said they
still hadn't lost all the "summertime
relaxing feeling."
"Overall it was a good effort by a
team that has changed a lot from
last year. We're seeing a lot of new
faces."
Blyth was to have played against
Brussels on Sunday, but the game
was cancelled due to ice problems
at the arena. Their next game is a
rematch against Lucknow on Sun-
day.
This past weekend the Brussels
Bulls played only one game. It was
at home to the 0 and 7 Wiarton
Wolves.
The Bulls got on the board first at
18:51 of the first period when Ryan
Wright scored assisted by Steve
Henderson and Ryan Kipfer.
Wiarton tied the game at one when
they scored on a power-play at the
17:38 mark. The Bulls regained the
lead at 10:56 on Ryan Wright's
second goal of the game being
assisted by Steve Henderson and
Josh Alexander. The Bulls
increased the lead to 3-1 on a
'power-play goal at 3:34 by Steve
Henderson, assisted by Dan
Sinclair and Ryan Wright. That's
how it stayed into the first"
intermission.
Ten seconds into the second-
period Wiarton surprised the Bulls
to make it a 3-2 game and later at
14:39 on a power-play tied the
score at 3. At 9:09 on another
power play Wiarton got the go-
ahead goal. Wiarton -scored three
unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead
to the dressing room at the end of
the second period.
They got their fifth goal at 9:03
of the third on yet another power
play and with the score 5-3 in
favour of Wiarton the Bulls were
able to get within one at 1:42 of the
third period on a goal by Tim Zaba,
assisted by Josh Alexander and
Dan Sinclair. The Bulls pulled the
goalie in favour of an extra
attacker, but were not able to get
Clinton creams
Crusaders
Derek Jefferson scored the
hattrick in leading Clinton to a 9-4
home ice win over the Crusaders
Friday night.
Jeff Gemmill, Nate Burns, Bob
Snell, Maurice Guy, D.J. Deline
and Derek Gridzack also scored for
Clinton, who led 3-2 after 20
minutes and 6-3 at the second
intermission.

McDonald and Brian Campbell
scored for Brussels.

the equalizer.
On Friday night the Bulls travel
to Wiarton for an 8:30 p.m. game
to see if they can climb out of the
basement and put Wiarton back in
it. On Sunday the Bulls travel to

Blackhawks for a 1 p.m. start.

contained in last week's Expositor and by attending the Public Forums

Down in front
With one down and three looking like they don't know
where to go, as the puck lays seemingly unobserved in
the centre, the action at the Brussels Novice game
against Milverton Friday night appears to be at a
standstill. Actually, the whistle had been blown for a
faceoff.
