Blyth council briefs
Baintons donate salt
Blyth will realize a small savings
in keeping the streets clean this
winter after a donation by a local
business.
Franklin Snell of Bainton Ltd.
asked council, at the Oct. 22 meet-
ing, if the village would be interest-
ed in an average 10 to 12 tonnes of
salt which is used for the shipping
of hides to the mill. (The total
could range up to 50 tonnes).
Though the cost of disposal is min-
imal, Snell said the company won-
dered if the village could make use
of it for the streets. The only cost to
council would be loading and
trucking the salt to the village shed.
The salt has already been tested
by the Ministry of Transportation
and found to be acceptable.
Council accepted the salt and
thanked Snell.

Seniors meet
The Blyth Swinging Seniors met
in the Memorial Hall on
Wednesday, Oct. 23 for a "Dessert
Card Party" and meeting. Two
visitors from Auburn joined them.
Following the desserts, President
Lawrence Plaetzer called the
meeting to order and opened by the
singing of 0 Canada with Graeme
McDowell at the piano. Happy
Birthday was sung to Mary Walden
and Catherine Caldwell.
Lawrence reminded all about the
Christmas dinner on Nov. 27 at
noon. The Legion Auxiliary will
cater and donate prizes, the cost is
$10 per person and tickets must be
purchased by Nov. 16. Phone Vera
Hesselwood 523-4483 or Jean
Plaetzer 523-9753 for these.
Edgar Howatt told some jokes
and a humorous reading which was
enjoyed by all. Correspondence
was discussed. It was moved by
Vera Hesselwood and seconded by
Vera Badley to send $25 to the
Wingham Day Care. This was
carried.
An invitation was received from
the Londesboro Seniors to join with
them for dinner March 26.
Cards followed with winners as
follows: euchre — high lady,
Dorothy Grange; high man,
Graeme McDowell. Lost heir —
high lady, Feme Howatt; high man,
Mary Walden.
The Seaforth committee indicated
an interest and further information
would be obtained.
No response has been received
from Clinton Public Hospital or
