Be., e Women's Institute was
he' the evening of Oct. 15 in
the .t/I Hall, Belgrave. Nancy
Jardin was convenor of this
meeting. The topic was "Osteo-
porosis". The usual opening was
led by President Audrey Fenton.

conducted. It included the secre-
tary's and treasurer's report,
presented by Dianna Robinson.

lunch at an upcoming anniversary
open house. Dates were discussed,
but not finalized for the WI
Christmas dinner and program.
Isabel Craig gave a report on the
WI Rally that she and the president
had attended at Londesboro
recently. Since the centennial of the
founding of the Women's Institute
is coming up in February of 1997
all members were encouraged to
learn the WI Centennial song.
A reminder was issued to all

The continuing issue of billing
apartment tenants for water came
before Morris Twp. council once
again at the Oct. 1 meeting.
Bob Gavreluk, an apartment
owner in Belgrave, told council he
believes the water bills should be
sent to tenants and not the landlord
as they are the ones receiving the
service. He used curbside billing as
an example.
Though councillors agreed to
investigate the matter, they will
continue to bill the landlord for
water usage, at present.
Paperwork will begin to set up an
agreement between the township
and Ken Thompson, for the pur-
chase of Lot 8, Conc. 2, presently
owned by the township. Thompson
initially, said he was not interested
in the purchase, but when council
suggested a two-year-payment
plan, he agreed. Two estimates of
value will be obtained.
Council accepted the proposal for
the Huron County Mutual Aid co-
ordinator, with an annual cost of
$245.77.
Dave Ryan, Lot. 54, Conc. 1, will
be billed for the fire call, Aug. 16,
because he requested the atten-
dame of the fire department during
file demolition of a building.

Nursing Services. They presented
the topic of osteoporosis with the
help of an overhead projector, a
video tape, hand-out information
sheets and also a display of foods
containing calcium. Each took a
turn at discussing risk factors,
treatment and other information
pertaining to the subject. Women
are more prone to developing this
problem than men. Also, men don't
have enough information on the
subject. It was of great interest to
the women present to learn more
about_this disorder. Early signs are
back pain and fractures.
A bone density test can be done
to determine if osteoporosis is
present and treatment can include
diet, exercise, hormone replace-
ment therapy and drug therapy. A
sufficient amount of calcium in the
diet is necessary and perhaps
calcium supplement if suggested by
a doctor. Some good sources of
calcium are milk and other dairy
products, sardines, salmon with
bones included, broccoli, oranges.
Regular exercise is needed.
Weight bearing exercise is best
such as walking or dancing.
Fractures are a common problem
for those with osteoporosis or
porous bones. Improving the safety
factor in the home was highlighted
by the speakers. A video titled
"Stalking the Silent Thief" was
shown.
The speakers were thanked for
their informative discussion and
display. At the conclusion of the
meeting Grace was sung and lunch
was served by Isabelle Craig and
Jean Nethery.
The application for a minor vari-
ance will proceed for Lot 19, Conc.
7, to allow for the construction of a
residence. A public meeting will be
