D. Bogie speaks to WI
The October meeting of
Londesboro WI was held at the
Hall at 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7.
The meeting opened with The
Opening Ode, Mary Stewart
Collect and 0 Canada.
Lois read a poem. Roll Call was
taken up.
The minutes of the September
meeting were read and approved.
Reta gave the financial report. June
Fothergill gave a report on the
Huron Rally Sept. 30 at
Londesboro Hall. Correspondence
was read from the FWIO president.
Leita Wiley introduced the guest
speaker, Darlene Bogie. She spoke
on food and told about high fibre
and low fat diets. Lois thanked her
and gave her a cookbook.
Alma Jewitt gave two readings
"The Sunny Side" and "The
Autograph Quilt".
A delicious lunch was served.
UCW meets
The UCW will meet at the
Church on Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. Jim
Papple will speak on the Canadian
Foodgrain Bank. Everyone is
welcome.

Officers for the coming year
The Huron County Women's Institute gathered in Londesboro recently for the 45th annual
rally . Officers for 1996-97 are, in back, from left: Mary Nicklas, board director; Ruth Bauer,

WI holds 45th Huron Cty. Rally
The monthly euchre tournament
was held at the hall on Friday
evening, Oct. 11. There were 20
tables of euchre. Three people won
"Share The Wealth".
Other winners were: first, Ray
and Shirley Gilders with 75 points;
Ushers at Church on Sunday,
Oct. 13 were Nick and Joan Whyte.
The senior choir sang.
The sermon topic was "Will We
or Will We not?"
Huronview Fellowship is
Nancy Park played the organ
prelude for Thanksgiving Sunday
Service on Oct. 13 at Knox United,
Auburn. Rev. Paul Ross then led
the responsive worship, invitation
followed by the opening hymn
Come, Ye Thankful People, Come.
Welcome to all present was then
given by Rev. Ross, assisted by
Graham Worsell.
The children's chorus Jesus
Loves The Little Children was
sung. The children went to the
front. Rev. Ross told the story of 10
lepers whom Christ cured. Only
one returned to thank Him. He then
showed them a photo album of his
family and spoke of how-thankful
he was to have happy memories.
He closed with prayer and the
children went downstairs.
Fairest Lord Jesus was then
sung, followed by scripture from
Deuteronomy 8: This was on God
speaking to the Israelites reminding
them that they were led through the
wilderness to the land of plenty and
to be thankful.
A hymn of Thanksgiving was
then sung by the senior choir.
Scripture reading continued with
the 2nd Corinthians 9, where Paul
told the people of Corinth to give
willingly to others as God had
given to them.
The hymn We Gather Together
was then sung.

Phyllis Tyndall; lone hands, Don
and Josie and Lloyd and Lillian
Appleby; hidden score, Beatrice
and Blanche.
The next euchre is Friday, Nov.

Thursday, Oct. 17 from 7 to 7:45
p.m.
There will be no service at
Londesboro United Church next
Sunday. It is Knox United Church,
Auburn's Anniversary Sunday.
The sermon was on "Will We or
Will We Not?" Rev. Ross spoke
concerning the pioneers who
crossed the ocean to 0:is unknown
land and with hard we:k made this
country a bounteous home. God
was with them, he said. "He is still
with us in this wonderful land. We,
who have so .much must never
forget those who need our help."
Rev. Ross closed with prayer.
Offering was then received
followed by the doxology and
prayer. Church closed with singing
Let All Things Now Living followed
by benediction, amen and organ
postlude.
Next Sunday, Oct. 20 is
Anniversary Service. Guest speaker
will be Pat Milliken, rural resource
minister for London Conference.
Light lunch will be served
afterwards. Everyone is welcome.
UCW members are reminded to
bring food for luncheon Sunday.
One-half loaf sandwiches for A - G
and squares or cookies for H - W.
The UCW will meet Monday,
Oct. 21 at Marjorie McDougall's at
8 p.m. They are each to bring an
article for the miscellaneous sale.
Anyone who wishes to renew
their subscription to the United
Church Observer or would like to
begin receiving it should contact
Kay Lapp. The price is $10. This
must be in Toronto prior to Nov.
15.
The 45th Huron County WI Rally
was held Sept. 30 in Londesboro
Hall. The theme, "Do Your Part"
was in keeping with the Safe and
Healthy Communities slogan.
The 65 ladies were welcomed by
the hosting Londesboro Branch.
The past president of Huron West
District, Betty Archambault chaired
the meeting. Margaret McMahon
outlined last year's minutes.
The Huron County Health Unit
outlined the importance of fibre in
our diets. Marguerite Thomas
displayed exhibit "How to Keep a
Safe and Healthy Community."
A very delicious pot luck lunch
was served at noon. The London
Area President, Delores Sharon
Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Toll,
London, Mr. Allen McDougall,
Sudbury and Miss Debra Danis of
Thornhill visited on the Thanks-
giving weekend with Marjorie
McDougall.
Bible Study was held at Marjorie
McDougall's home, Auburn on Oct.
9. They will meet at the manse this
week.
The United Church Manse is for
sale. Anyone interested should
contact G. Gross, 526-7581; Bill

526-7769.
At Keith and Helen Lapp's home
a family Thanksgiving dinner was
held for both sides of the house.
The Hakker family was represented
by members from London,
spoke on London Area convention
on Oct. 24, St. Thomas. Leona
Foerter brought greetings from
Huron East and spoke on Guelph
Area Convention in Brussels Oct.
9, 10.
Provincial Board Director
Subdivision 23, Mary Nicklas
spoke of WI restructuring. She said
to watch for WI commercials on
radio, and be sure to use the loan
library. Women's Day at the Royal
is Friday, Nov. 8. Volunteers were
requested for the WI booth for each
day.
Huron Perth District Health
Council spoke on developing a plan
for promoting health within the
Goderich, Blyth and Auburn. The
Lapp's were from Kippen, and
Auburn. Everyone enjoyed the
celebration together.
Several members of the Silver
Tops were present at the Seniors
Annual Fall Rally in Blyth on Oct.
10. The speakers, Rev. Huntley and
Mason Bailey were enjoyed.
Ross Procter showed pictures
which took everyone west for a
cattle roundup. This was quite an
experience.
Auburn seemed to be very
fortunate in the draw. Dorothy
Grange won the door prize, a floral
bouquet from Luann's while three
others were also winners of prizes.
Everyone had an enjoyable
meetin
district.
Huron County Scholarship
Award was Janet Van Den Hoven,
Seaforth. Twenty-four 4-H project
Award was Taylor Park, Port
Albert.
The WI Centennial Song was
sung. Sheryl McCloud gave
courtesies for the day and invited
all for the 46th County Rally in
Crediton.
