Weekend action for the Brussels
Bulls saw them board the bus on
Friday night for Kincardine for an
8:30 start against the Bulldogs.
The Bulls got on the board first
on a goal at 15:24 by Steve
Henderson with Brad Mulvey and
Ryan Wright drawing assists. Five
minutes later, Kincardine tied the
score while Ryan Kipfer was in the
penalty box for interference. The
score remained tied through the
first period.
Kincardine scored two minutes,
into the second to take a 2-1 lead,
until Wright got his first of two
goals when he was set up by Steve
Henderson and Josh Alexander.
With only 21 seconds left on the
clock the Bulldogs scored to take
an advantage into the second period
break.
Mike deJong was solid in net for
the Bulls while being outshot 13-6
in the first and 17-9 in t he second.
In the third, the Bulls tied on a
powerplay goal by Wright, assisted
by Steve Henderson and Darin
Alviano. The lead didn't last long,
when the Bulls on a powerplay,
gave up a shorthanded two on one
goal. Kincardine extended their
lead to two goals at 6:23 of the

third period but at 3:26, Alviano
buried one in the Bulldog net to
make it a one goal game.
Assists went to Steve Henderson
and Wright.
With deJong out of the goal in
favour of an extra attacker, the
Bulldogs scored into an open net
with 16 seconds left in the third to
ice the game.
Brussels outshot Kincardine in
the third period, but it wasn't
enough as Kincardine beat the
Bulls 6-4. The line of Wright,
Henderson and Alviano figured in
all of the Bulls scoring with plenty
of opportunities and missed
chances by both teams.
On Sunday afternoon Wingham
Ironmen were in town for the Bulls'
home opener and a good crowd was
on hand to see the rivalry heat up as
the last time these two teams
played to a 4-4 tie.
With player introductions made
by CKNX sports director Gord
Dougan and the ceremonial puck
drop by former Bulls' goaltender
Jeff McGavin in honour of
McGavin Farm Equipment's 60th
Anniversary and long-time
sponsorship of the Bulls, the game
was underway.
Owing to so many things going
on in the village there were just six
tables of play at the Oct. 1 Majestic
WI euchre in Brussels.
Winners were: high lady, Helen

low lady, Isabelle Craig; low man,
With end-to-end action in the
first period the score remained
knotted at 0-0 until the 10:44 mark
when on a powerplay Wingham
took the lead. At 3:34, a second
powerplay earned Wingham a goal
to make the score 2-0. It stayed this
way through to the end of the
period.
At 4:59 of the third period,
Wingham put the icing on the cake
giving the Ironmen a 3-0 game to
spoil the Bulls' home opener. Jamie
Taylor played well in net, or the
score could have been much worse.
Shots on goal were Wingham 39
and the Bulls 22.
The Bulls travelled to Walkerton
on Friday and then again Sunday to
play the Black Hawks. The next
home game for the Bulls will be
against the Jr. B Kitchener
Dutchmen in an exhibition
matchup against their affiliate. This
will be a homecoming for Coach
Terry McCutcheon, who played his
early minor hockey in Brussels.
Special guest announcer is Matt
O'Neil of CKNX AM 920 for this
night of hockey, to see if the Bulls
can get a win against their Jr. B
cousins from Kitchener.

Two third-period goals by Kevin
Overholt, the second with 49
seconds left in the game and the
goaltender on the bench, lifted the
Huron-Perth Laker Minor PeeWees
into a 4-4 tie with the Brantford
Bandits in AAA Alliance action,
Oct. 1.
Other Laker goals were scored by
Nolan Krotz and Rick Miller. The
game was a solid two-way hard
hitting affair.
Jeremy Boniface played an
outstanding game in net, stopping
several Brantford breakaways in
the third period to set things up for
Overholt's tying marker. Assisting
on Laker goals were Chris Ward,
Ken Courtney, Krotz, Miller, Kyle
Hamilton and Paul Dagg.
Four unanswered first period
goal enabled a strong Kitchener
AAA team to coast to an easy 8-1
victory over the Minor PeeWee
Lakers Sunday in Clinton. Chris
Ward scored the lone Laker goal on
a third period power-play assisted
by Daryl Bourne.
The Minor Peewees take to the
road this week with games in
London, Sarnia and Chatham.
