Sheila Richards, volunteer auction committee member, left, and Shirley Hazlitt, auction co-ordinator are pictured with a small sampling of the donations. Unique items up for bids Where can you shop for such diverse bargains as a whale watching trip to New Brunswick, handmade quilts, one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork, autographed novels, posters, scripts and CDs, and theatre, spa, fishing and golf packages? All of these items and more will be offered to the highest bidders at the Blyth Festival's Gala Auction Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Blyth Community Centre. The auction, held every second year, is one of the Festival's biggest fundraising events and organizers hope that this year's proceeds will help burn a large chunk of the Festival's mortgage. A team of volunteers has been busy during the past few months rounding up a variety of unique items from near and afar. Imagine a plane and pilot at your disposal for a one-hour jaunt or a luxurious stay at the historic Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Everything from food products such as locally harvested maple syrup, a gourmet pickle package and 10 pounds of grain-fed veal to handcrafted treasures such as a heritage screen door, rocking chair, and quilt stand will be awaiting your bid. There are dining excursions, bed and breakfast accommodations, exciting trips, tickets to sporting events, celebrity items - even firewood, liqueur, a leather jacket and computer software. There are gift certificates galore for services ranging from haircuts, saunas and massages to legal consultations, design work and even a band which can be rented for a dance or party. Auction-goers can also bid on a variety of experiences - from cutting one's own Christmas tree and watching a sheep round-up to canoeing and being a newspaper editor for a day. The auction will feature live music by Cedric Smith from the legendary Perth County Conspiracy Continued on page 27 .010,111f HOWL, Sizeriai4y 904,4 T.
