White Clerk-Treasurer Audrey Cardiff, top citizen The Brussels Park Recreational Development Committee completed another year's work on the new recreation field. This year the soccer field was done with just the goal posts left to be installed. The stonedust and fencing was installed for the ball diamond. Both facilities will be ready for use next spring. The committee would like to thank the many donations made this year and last year as well in order to make this project possible. The current committee consists of chairperson, John Harrison; In 1994, the national harvest level was 23 per cent below the allowable annual cut (AAC); 988,960 hectares were harvested. vice-chair, Mike Thomas; secretary, Sandra Josling; treasurer, Jacquie Cowing; directors, Jayne Ross and Gary Pipe. It is quite apparent that the 1996 Brussels Citizen of the Year is very deserving of the recognition as she was nominated by several fellow residents. Audrey Cardiff is a long-time member of the Brussels community and has given of her time, skills and charm to better the village, say her proponents. A registered nurse at Huronlca, Cardiff also assists seniors who call her for home visits when they are not feeling well or when sickness strikes in the night. As one of the founding members of BMG Caterers who provides meals for many functions at the BMG Community Centre, she has help raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the arena. A leader of the United Church Women, Cardiff has served as a steward and been responsible for planning meals for church func- tions. Lodge meets The September meeting of Morning Star Lodge opened with a pot luck supper. This meal was well attended. Sister Betty Cardiff presided over the meetings. Lodge opened in the usual manner followed by the secretary's report. The charter was draped for the late Sister Edith Baber and Sister Louise Clark assembly officer. Twenty-five year jewels were presented to Joyce Treibner and Lois McCutcheon by D.D. Pres. Rene Richmond. A letter was read from Ruth Rebekah Lodge, Stratford informing of the 100th birthday of this lodge to be held at a later date. A letter was read from Lt. Col. Russ Hadley of the Patriarchs Militant of Ontario informing the lodge that Sister Mary Lowe had been elected to receive the highest award of honour and merit which can be bestowed upon a Sister Rebekah, by the authority of the Independent Order of Oddfellows. The investiture ceremony will be held in Picton at Prince Edward Collegiate on Nov. 30. Sister Mary Nichol and her husband Glenn celebrated their 50th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 28. Congratulations. Card parties are to be held again this winter on the third Monday of every month. Happy Birthday was sung to Sister Lorraine Edwards.
