The news from uburn Compiled by Kay Lapp Phone 526-7264 Thanks Don Andrews, representing the Canadian Cancer Society accepts a cheque, in the amount of $850 from Matt Anderson on behalf of A Few Good Men's ball team. The presentation was made Friday evening prior to the weekend tournament, hosted by the team. A total of 16 teams competed. Silver Tops hear of ghost towns The Auburn Silver Tops enjoyed their first fall meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 18. At 12 noon a pot luck dinner was enjoyed with a good attendance. After the meal, Margaret Hildebrand, the president, started the business with an interesting reading from a book about ghost towns. Not too far from Auburn back in the 1800s there was a thriving little town "Sunshine". It was quite industrious with three or four active factories and businesses. It is now only a memory. Secretary Marion Haggitt read the minutes of the last meeting, which were accepted as read. Marion, who has been secretary almost from the beginning of the Silver Tops then said she would The Londcsboro Lions Old Tyme Country Breakfast is at Londesboro Community Hall Sunday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be eggs, bacon ; sausage, toast, pancakes, potatoes and coffee. Proceeds go towards local projects. The sympathy of the community is extended to Ken Vodden, Frank and Dorothy Johnson and Ian and Debbie Hulley of Clinton on the passing of Joy Vodden, wife, sister and mother. The new season of Londesboro Ushers at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Sept. 22 were Ed Salverda and Tom Duizer. Flowers at the front of the church were in loving memory of. Joy Vodden. The choir sang To Show Thy Touch and Word. The sermon topic was "What do you need from God?" Junior Youth Group will meet on like to resign. The members thanked her for her years of excellent work and gave her a hearty applause. It was left until the next meeting for a new secretary to take her place. Correspondence was then read. It was decided that $25 be given to the Alzheimer Society. Two invitations were received and a number of members will try to go to Dungannon on Oct. 10. The club is responsible for two numbers. Ernie Durnin will take care of one. Margaret Hildebrand then told of her granddaughter's experiences in China. They had a most enjoyable time and saw a great deal of the country. Other members told of trips they had enjoyed during the summer Happy Gang Seniors will begin at the hall on Wednesday, Sept. 25 with a pot luck meal at 12:30 p.m. All people 55 and over are welcome. This is membership month. Cost is $5 per person. The seniors dance is at Londesboro Hall Friday, Sept. 27 at 8:30 p.m. Reg. and Elizabeth Lawson have just returned home from a three- and-a-half week vacation to the west coast. While there they visited many friends and relatives. Wednesday night, Sept. 25 at Knox Church, Auburn. The Session and Committee of Stewards will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. in the Sunday School Room. The Official Board will meet the same evening at 9 p.m. Junior Choir will start on Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 7 - 8 p.m. such as boating, visiting the zoo and a three-day mystery tour. Happy Birthday was sung for Ell Lapp, who had celebrated his birthday on Sept. 16. People on Thursday, Sept. 19. The September meeting of Londesboro Cheerio Club was held on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Members had lunch at the Hillcrest Restaurant, then proceeded to the home of Audrey Thompson. Audrey welcomed everyone. Roll call was answered by seven members. The September meeting of Londesboro UCW was held at the church on Monday evening, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. Kittie McGregor presided in the absence of President Cheryl Trewartha. The Church Purpose was repeated in unison. The worship service was conducted by Margaret Wright, Dorothy Tamblyn and Bernice Norman. Hymn 86 All Things Bright and Beautiful was sung. Mrs. Norman read the scripture. Hymn 197 Now Thank We All Our God was -sung. Margaret closed with prayer. Guest speaker was Ruth Dewar of Atwood. She spoke and demonstrated on strip quilting. Kittie thanked her. She was presented with a gift. Collection and birthday pennies The service at Knox United opened on Sunday, Sept. 22 with organ prelude by Bernice Gross. Responsive Worship Invitation was given followed , by Come Christians, Join to Sing. Rev. Paul Ross gave welcoming invitation, followed by prayer. The opening hymn was For the Beauty of the Earth followed by prayer. The children and teachers went to the front. A surprise bag contained a softball. Rev.
