"I had always intended to practise
in Huron County because I like the
area," says John Myers, a barrister,
solicitor and mediator who recently
hung his shingle in Blyth.
After growing up in Lambeth,
just south of London and articling
in Georgetown, Myers and his wife
of six years, Cheryl, came to Wing-
ham in 1992.
Small towns still need lawyers,
he says, speaking of the outflow of
professionals from towns and vil-
lages, so he decided to set up his
office above Luann's Country
Flowers on the main street of
Blyth.
Myers can assist clients with
pretty well any legal matter, he
says, as his general practice covers
everything from real estate devel-
opment, wills, separation agree-
ments, divorce, law suits, incor-
porations and administrative appli-
cation to government bodies.
With a one-lawyer practice,
Myers says court cases which could
take a few weeks would be referred
to specialists. "It would be difficult
to leave the practice for a length of
time."
As for lawsuits or matters which
can avoid court settlements, Myers
offers mediation services to keep
costs down and allow clients to
work out an agreement which is
agreeable to both parties, thereby
more likely to succeed. "I prefer
mediation to litigation."
Myers says he has been warmly
set of darts and small change.
Value is $2,000. The investigation
is continuing.

received by Blyth residents and
hopes to offer them the services
they require.
The office will be open from 9
a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday to Fri-
day, with evening and home
appointments available. Because of
his second floor location, Myers
will also go to the home of seniors
or the disabled who have difficulty
climbing stairs.
Myers can be reached at 523-
9148.
In Ontario, between 1985-1990,
nearly 600 persons over 65 died
each year as a direct or indirect
result of falling.
