BIG SAVINGS SCRIMGEOUR'S FOOD MARKET A hospital study for Huron Perth is moving forward quickly with the deadline of Jan. 31. The local District Health Council recently received funding from the Ministry of Health to complete this study for the Huron Perth district. The Ministry of Health has indicated that the study must be completed by the end of January so that hospitals can incorporate DHC recommendations into their operating plans for the next fiscal year. The eight hospitals in Huron Perth are participating in the study process. The District Health Council task force overseeing the study includes local volunteers from the commun- ity and hospital sector. Task Force Chair, Janet Hook, said that as the study is moving forward very quickly, it will be important for Huron Perth residents to participate in the opportunities for input that are made available to them. District Health Council staff will be working with a sub-committee of the task force to make sure that opportunities for local input are available throughout the study. Opportunities for community input will include random telephone surveys, focus groups, requests for written submissions, and open houses. The study task force has acknowledged that quality health care, access to, and co-ordination of service are the key components that must be included in the Huron Perth hospital system. District Health Council Executive Director, Fraser Bell said, "All possible options, such as hospital role changes, mergers and closures will be considered by the task force as it seeks ways to streamline the hospital system". A team from Price Waterhouse Management Consultants has been hired to work closely with HPDHC staff to provide technical assistance to the study task force. The HPDHC, along with the study task force, is committed to ensuring that their recommendations to the Minister of Health will result in a hospital system that best meets the health care needs of Huron Perth residents, despite impending cut- backs to local hospitals.
