Sandy MacEachern gave the
message at Brussels Mennonite
Fellowship on Sunday, Sept. 8. The
scripture text was 1 Peter 1: 1-12.
Christians have hope in life
because they have the assurance of
salvation for eternal life in heaven.
Rod Steinman was worship
leader, and Thelma Steinman was
song leader. Anne Hemingway was
pianist. Tim Procter played for the
offertory.
Following the Sunday School
Hour a fellowship meal was held in
the gymnasium.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, the Youth

and bake sale during the Thresher
Reunion Weekend, making it a
success.
Following the Gathering
Together part of the service Knock
Knock Knock was sung followed by
the choral anthem, Turn Your
Radio On with Mike Duthie
accompanying on the piano.
Lavern Clark read the scripture
lesson from the Old Testament,
Exodus and the New Testament
from Romans. Rev. Huntley
delivered the Gospel reading from
Matthew 18: 15-20.
He then gave an inspiring sermon
entitled, "All You Need is Love."
He said, this pop tune by the
Beatles with its lyrics from the
LOVE generation of the 1960s has
become a classic. It has a similar
ring to the words of the Apostle
Paul writing from a far generation.
"Let no debt remain outstanding,
except the continuing debt to love
one another, for he who loves his
fellow man has fulfilled the law.
The commandments are all
summed up in this one rule: "Love
your neighbour as yourself."
Therefore love is the fulfillment of
the Law.
In conclusion, Rev. Huntley told
the story about Charles Colson's
prison ministry during the
Watergate scandel in the U.S.
During a prayer meeting in a large
prison, one of Colson's group went
missing. They were shocked to find
him in a cell, sitting talking to an
inmate. The man answered, "My
name is Judge Brewer. I am the
judge who sentenced this man. I am
here because we both need time to
forgive and to love!"
The service concluded with
choral response, "Go Now in
Peace" with Michael Duthie
playing a postlude on the piano.
