These grubs are the larvae of June beetles and European chef ers that lay eggs which hatch in summer. Damage is very noticeable in fall, especially when skunks, raccoons and moles dig up the lawn to feed on the grubs, If the grubs are not controlled in autumn; they will continue feeding on the grass roots in spring. In the dead patches, the weakly rooted sod can be pulled back to reveal the fat, white. C-shaped grubs. The have a brown head a three large pairs of legs. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 1996 Council changes street names Some Brussels residents will be getting new addresses in the com- ing months as Huron County pre- pares to implement the 9-1-1 emergency calling number. The problem arises because there are several duplicated street names and under the new system there can be only one street with each name in a municipality to prevent confu- sion for emergency personnel responding to a call. There had been a concern that many streets in the area south of Mill St. change names from the west side of Turnberry St. to the east side but county officials said the names would not have to be consistent on both sides. It still leaves the problem of two Thomas I The new school year is well underway and the administration of the Huron County Board of Educa- tion is settling into their new accommodations at Central Huron Secondary School. When the board decided to sell the Education Centre in Clinton, to reduce maintenance costs, the move to CHSS became necessary. The building was sold for $93,390 which was used to reno- vate a portion of the Learning Resources Centre and relocate a Continued from page 7 it's not their product." Mickle summed up the debate saying there seems to be no alterna- tive but to make the repairs though he suggested the county should immediately look at selling the homes and getting out of the busi- ness. To solve one problem, the down- town Thomas St. will be renamed King St. so the same name will be consistent from the east to the west of the village. Clerk-Treasurer Donna White said the numbering of the two streets is such that home- owners likely won't heve to change their street numbers. The second John St., a tiny east- west street near the senior citizens apartments, will be renamed Mechanics St. to continue that street and end confusion. In the north end, a confusing physics lab at the secondary school. The work is nearing completion with costs well within the budgeted $93,000. Total costs for renova- tions and moving are expected to come in around $77,000. The physics lab, relocated and improved for approximately $25,000, was expected to cost about $30,000 which was budgeted separately from other funds. The facility will now be known as the Education and Learning Resources Centre. Goderich town council also asked the county to examine selling the homes. The matter has been for- warded to the Health and Seniors Committee for review.) Council agreed to go ahead with the changes which will be funded by the Ministry of Health ($268,000) and the county ($207,000) and will still mean the original Huronview/Huronlea pro- ject is still under budget. sold until next summer's homecom- ing celebrations. In addition some individual house numbers will have to be changed. Homeowners with corner lots were originally able to chose which street they wanted to be numbered on but under the new regulations, the street number must be for the main entrance or access point,,such as the driveway. Coun- cillor Greg Wilson suggested many homeowners will be inconve- nienced by having to buy new num- bers for their houses. Councillor Joe Seili said despite the inconvenience, "once the num- bering is in place it will make it a lot better to find places."
