Tigers
take
tourney
title
Tiger defence held the opposition
to one run over the final 19 innings
of baseball in leading Brussels to
their second consecutive, and third
in five years, consolation cham-
pionship of the Goderich Fastball
Tournament.
Friday night Doug Conley
suffered his first loss of the year
when a sixth inning solo homerun
gave the Goderich Dukes a 3-2
win. Tim Fritz batted three for
three including an RBI and run
scored.
Saturday, Murray Pipe batted
three for three with a leadoff
homerun to give the Tigers an 8-2
win over Seaforth. Uhrig gave up
five hits while striking out 14 as
well as completing a six run second
inning with a two RBI homerun.
Sunday night Ken Higgins hit a
three RBI homerun in the first extra
inning for a 4-1 win over Goderich
Cashway. The Tigers opened the
scoring in the third with Cashway
capitalizing on a fielding error to
tie one inning later. Dave Smith
went the distance with a three hit,
11 strikeout performance while
Gary Pipe reached base on all three
attempts.
Monday afternoon Uhrig batted '
three for three while pitching a two
hit, nine strikeout game in leading
the Tigers to an 8-0 championship
win over the Lieury Red Sox.
Brussels opened quickly scoring
two in the first and sealed the win
with four in their last at bat.
Tuesday night in Harriston the
Mercurys took a 1-0 lead in their
best of five WOAA championshiip
series with a 4-2 win over the
Tigers.
Harriston pitcher Ryan Martin
struck out 19 Tigers allowing only
a two RBI homerun by Conley in
the seventh inning. Conley went
the distance for Brussels giving up
two runs in each of the fourth and
fifth innings.
Game two was Monday night
with game three scheduled for this
Monday in Brussels.
Bowlers
end season
Brussels Lawn Bowling Club
held its last tournament of the
season Thursday, Sept. 5
commencing at 1:30 p.m. with 16
teams competing.
Winners were: first, Ross Pepper
and Frances Tuer, Mitchell, 3 wins
54 plus 10; second, Joe and
Barbara Whyte, Atwood, 3 wins 49
plus 5; third, Jack and Marie Muir,
Seaforth, 2 wins 45; fourth, Doug
and Thelma Kidd, Atwood, 2 wins
35; fifth, Gerald Gibson and Viola
Kirkby, 2 wins 35; sixth Ken
Barbour and Mabel Wheeler,
