Community welcomes family Families and the community are mourning the recent deaths of two friends, Mr. George Schneider, Mildmay and Mr. Wm. L. Craig, Brussels. For years Mr. Schneider was an employee of Mr. Craig at the Craig lumber mill. Sympathy is extended to the Schneider and the Craig families for their recent bereavement. A new family is to be welcomed into the community. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Jeffery and their four children who are living on the Maitland Block. Knox United was p leased to welcome them on Sunaay. Visitors from Holland arrived on Saturday, Sept. 7 to visit with Mrs. Joe Verwey and family. Old friends, Mr. and Mrs. Hill of London spent one day this past week visiting Mrs. Bernice Anderson. Organist Nancy Park played prelude music as the congregation assembled on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Auburn United Church. Rev. Paul Ross welcomed all and the opening chorus Come Christians, Join to Sing was sung. Prayer was then given on God's understanding of strife, misunderstanding and learning from life, peace and forgiveness. The hymn There's a Quiet Understanding was then sung. The children were then invited to the front. Rev. Ross showed them the road map of Ontario and had them find "Auburn" on it. Then he showed their Sunday School book, explaining that it is a map. The lessons in it, he said, teach them to take the correct road of life as they journey through it. Prayer was then said and the children's chorus sung as they went to their classes. Scripture reading was from Exodus 12 on the unblemished lamb that was to be sacrificed and eaten so that judgement would come from God. The second reading was from Romans 13 saying that love should predominate. There should be no strife and people must love our neighbours. The third reading was St. Matthew 18, stating that when there is trouble try to settle it amicably. Take problems to God, who is always there. A very appropriate hymn Blest be the tie that Binds was then sung. Rev. Ross's sermon was "An Awesome Responsibility". He spoke on the trials in this world and in each person's life. "There are bound to be misunderstandings as we travel life's journey. Individuals must try not to make big issues out of trivial things. However even in congregations, courts or countries, serious matters have to be considered with a great deal of understanding." He closed with prayer on the same topic trusting that God will be with everyone in their daily lives. Offering was then received from the church and Sunday School. The offertory prayer was given and a hymn sung. The service closed with the hymn The Church is Wherever God's People are Serving followed by the benediction and amens. Bible Study resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the home of Audrey Thompson, Londesboro. Familiar sound The sound of a fiddle is a common one at the Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion.
