The Huron County Heart &
Stroke Foundation's Children's
Dream Home draw, which was held
on Aug. 24 at the Zurich Bean
Festival, was won by the Les Cook
family of 520 Morris Street, Blyth.
The Dream Home was
constructed by Bill Heibien, Gorrie
and David Dinsmore of Fordwich,
with material donated by Don
Watson Hardware, Gorrie. The

Blyth council, Reeve Mason Bailey
told council, at the Sept. 3 meeting,
he had made some valuable con-
tacts with other municipal leaders
with regards to the cessation of
education tax collection.
As well as having the opportunity
to speak with the mayor of Toron-
to, Reeve Bailey also spoke with
the mayors from Owen Sound,
Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and
Windsor, in an effort to garner
more support for the campaign.
draw tickets. During the summer
the Dream Home was on display at
Zehrs Food Plus, Goderich and was
transported by Moffatt & Powell,
Goderich.
Roy Elliott, chairman of the draw
project, said the Cook children,
Brittany and Katie were thrilled at
winning the Dream Home, and
when the home was delivered and
set up the girls were ready to move
in with bedding and toys.
Blyth council's position will also
be covered in a story in Taxpayer, a
paper distributed to 83,000 Ontari-
ans and MPPs.
Councillors agreed the next step
will be to provide a package con-
cerning the education tax campaign
to the provincial sub-committee on
education which is to be formed in
the near future.

possibility of amalgamation at the
Sept. 3 meeting, agreed that it
would happen whether the munici-

Bruce Potter of B.M. Ross and
Associates, reported to council that
the decorative street lights on
Queen Street do not provide
enough light to meet Ministry of
Transportation standards because it
was assumed the village would take
over the highway as a connecting
link, thereby not needing MTO
approval.
Potter has submitted a report to
MTO for approval and said he is
optimistic that there will be no
problem in retaining the lighting
levels without assuming the high-
way.
Work will continue on Phase II
of the lighting project.

David Grahlman of Gamsby and
Mannerow Ltd., was appointed
drainage superintendent for the vil-
lage.
In reporting to council on the
Whitefield Drain, Grahlman said
some gas tanks which had been
used as a drain, were collapsing
and a junction between the tanks
and some piping differed by 16
inches.
He recommended a temporary
solution could be attained by dig-
ging into the banks and placing
sidewalk slabs horizontally. The
junction difference could be
repaired by pouring a cement collar
around the joint to prevent or slow
the flow of soil into the pipe. Cedar
posts would be driven in, at four
foot intervals, along the length of
the gas tanks to prevent further col-
lapse.
The eventual, long term solution
would be to replace the gas tanks
and possibly fill the entire ditch
with pipe, said Grahlman.
Council approved the short-term
fix as suggested by Grahlman.
