35th Pioneer Thresher Reunion
Many pull together to feed the masses
Satisfying one's hunger will not be a
problem at the Huron Pioneer Thresher and
Hobby Association's 35th anniversary
Reunion, with booth operators and com-
munity groups supplying numerous delicious
feasts.
As is the long-standing tradition of the
reunion, there will be a good selection of
food available throughout the three day
event held at the Blyth Fairgrounds.
There will be food booths strategically
placed around the grounds to make
-quenching a hunger or thirst very easy.
The food will be available at Shed 2, near
Second Stage next to the arena ball diamond,
close to Radford's diamond on the opposite
side of the park and in the Auditorium
The Blyth Optimists and Lions will be
providing fare such as pop, hotdogs, chips,
fries and hamburgers from Friday through
Sunday. The Optimists will also offer
Oktoberfest sausage.
The Blyth Girl Guides, Brownies and
Pathfinders will be operating a booth which
will supply hungry spectators with muffins,
coffee and cold drinks.
The Londesboro Lions Club will have a
booth set up near the tractor pull area,
offering patrons beef on a bun.
The Auburn United Church will be serving
sandwiches and pie while the Blyth
Anglican parish will offer treats near Shed 1.
Hotdogs, burgers and fries will be dished
out from the food booth in the arena.
Interested in some old-fashioned food? A
trip to the bean pot at the centre of the park
could be the answer. The beans are started
early in the morning in a large cast iron pot.
They simmer over an open fire throughout
the day. As portions are taken out to feed the
crowds more beans are added to the brew.
This is a typical thresher's soup.
The Huron County Museum cooks will be
stirring the bean pot as well as popping some
corn the old-fashioned way and pouring a
little apple cider to wash it all down.
For those looking for a sit down meal, the
Legion Ladies Auxiliary will be providing a
hot meal in the upstairs of the Auditorium.
Lunch will be available Friday and Saturday
from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and dinner will
be served beginning at 4:30 p.m. and run
until 7 p.m.
Lunch will consist of soup and a sandwich
while at dinner there will be a choice of two
meats with all the trimmings. There will be a
good selection of desserts to choose from as
well, such as pies, cakes and cheesecakes.
On Sunday, the hot meals will be supplied
by the Blyth Lions. The meal of ham and
scalloped potatoes or roast beef will be
served for dinner from 4:30 p.m. until 7
p.m. and a light lunch of soup and
sandwiches will be available at noon.
The Lions will also be running the beer
tent in Lions Park on Saturday and Sunday.
For early risers, the Blyth Fire Department
pancake breakfast will be served from 7:30
a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the firehall. This will
be available on Saturday and Sunday.
The menu will include pancakes, and
syrup with bacon or sausages and coffee or
juice.
It is bound to be an enjoyable weekend
just sampling the fare at each booth located
around the reunion site.
REUNION TRADITION — Cooked up by the Huron County
Museum staff and volunteers, the bean pot is a favourite for
satisfying a hunger.
