THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28, 1996 Blyth United guest speaker talks on chaos Greeters at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Aug. 28, Pentecost 13, were Mary Walden and Janet Lawrie. Ushers were Joan and Lavern Clark and Chris and Jane Meier. Organist was Michael Duthie. Les Rutledge assisted in the worship service. Call to worship was followed by the opening hymn Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow. Welcome and announcements were given by Les Rutledge. He told congregation that Cenetta Bainton has been transferred back to Clinton Hospital, then welcomed Betty Graber from Brussels, a registered nurse who works at Braemar Lodge, Wingham and is the chairperson of London Presbytery, who was guest speaker for the service. Hymn Lord of the Dance was sung, followed by Prayer of Confession in unison and Assurance of Pardon. 0 Sing a New Song was sung. The Old Testament lesson, Exodus 1: 8 to 2:10 and New Testament lesson, Romans 12: 1-8, were read by Rutledge. The theme of the sermon was "Chaos and Choices". Graber defined Chaos as disorder and confusion. Some think the only way to deal with it is to cry and storm off while others cope very well, she said. As Christians, Christians are expected to live and act their faith every day. They need to renew confirmation and church vows. They are responsible for how they react. They need to go back to basics of faith and trust God. They are all here to work on their faith journey to promote church love. They are all the body of Christ. They are judged by what they do. Services, Graber said, need to be directed and simple. Keep church services open that all may accept and provide choices in order to avoid chaos. People all have a chance to make choices. Church people say they trust God. They are seen by what they do. They all have to be very clear in their faith. "As in the story of Moses, choices were made to let the little boy live. In our lesson from Exodus, use information of to day and the brains you have to make decisions by being thoughtful. We have the choice of being a peaceful person or a disturbed person," Graber said. God has a sense of humor and expectations to love, she said. God is in control as the world made it is orderly. "We have to be part of the chaotic choices until we die. Enjoy the choice and challenge as God is always there to protect us." Hymn For the Fruits of His Creation was followed by the offering and dedication. Pastoral Prayer was repeated and Lord's Prayer sung. The closing hymn was Saviour, Teach Me Day By Day.
