street was completed. Then they marched
across to their new school, and McGavins
began moving parts into the old one. The
building made the transition easily. A
workshop was added at the back and the
teacher's room was transformed into the
office.
The yard where children once played
was now an exhibit area for the new and
used equipment that were part of the
working world.
Gordon's son, Neil graduated from the
Ontario Agricultural College in 1957 and
became a partner in the business. When
Gordon, a long-time Liberal Party
supporter decided to run for election in
1963, Neil became sales manager. At that
time, Huron was a strong Progressive
Conservative riding and Gordon couldn't
turn the tide.
Neil recalled meeting dozen of farmers
who claimed they should get a special deal
because they'd helped in his father's
election campaign. Some of them, he
