The Citizen, 1996-07-19, Page 8July 1988 was an important month in the history of McGavin Farm Equipment and McGavin Farm Supply as the new, larger shop was
officially opened. Cutting the ribbon during the grand opening ceremonies are Jeff, Neil and Brian McGavin.
Gordon McGavin won the Ontario Plowing Match Championship in 1926, at the International
Plowing Match in Niagara Falls.
With the vision of starting a farm
implement business, Gordon
McGavin started with a small shed
on his farm in McKillop Twp., in
1936. When he moved to the old
school house, equipment was
repaired on the lower floor with
parts stored upstairs.

Family photos show just a small part of McGavin's 60-year history
The swamps of Huron County, and
the machinery from McGavin Farm
Equipment, were used in a
Goodyear Tire cross-Canada
advertisement, in the early years.
Gordon McGavin had the
opportunity to show that the
combination of that tire and tractor
could get through anything.
Neil McGavin became a partner in his father's farm
equipment business in 1957.
Not only was Gordon McGavin an entrepreneur, but also an inventor. This is his stook loade ,
thresher.
Sixty years after Gordon McGavin first opened his repair and implement dealership, the family
carries on the tradition of supplying farmers with short-line machinery. Here, Gordon McGavin
drives a Cockshutt tractor and forage harvestor.
Aside from spending time in the shop assisting customers, McGavins have
for generations, been involved in local and international plowing matches.
Here, Jeff McGavin discusses the furrows with a fellow competitor.
