MEMORIAL
A memorial ceremony was held
at Grey Central for David Harrison,
a Grade 8 student who died as a
result of a car accident last
November. The students gathered
on the front lawn of the school to
plant a red maple tree in David's
memory. Following an introduction
by Mr. Statia, Christie and Jason
Snider unveiled a plaque while two
of David's classmates, Chad
Fischer and Gerald Bowles,
completed the planting of a red
maple tree. Kelly Stewart read a
poem which was written by David
Just prior to his death. The poem,
with David's picture, will hang in
our school as a remembrance.
A TRIP TO THE ROM
By Lacey McCall and
Jenna Fischer
On Friday, June 14, Grey Central
3/4s went to the Royal Ontario
Museum. Mr. Park's class studied
Ancient Egypt and Mrs. Starkey's
class studied Native Canadians.
The children enjoyed the bat cave
most of all. Each gallery was filled
with interesting things. There were
birds, mummies and dinosaur
galleries and many more exhibits.
Both classes went to the lab with a
museum teacher.
Mr. Park's class looked at
Egyptian tools and Mrs. Starkey's
class looked at Native Canadian
tools. For lunch we went to
McDonald's and for supper (we
brought a brown bag supper). We
ate in a park. Each class had a good
time and learned lots of interesting
things. Everyone enjoyed the trip to
the ROM. It was a good
experience.
GRADE 7 QUEBEC TRIP
The Grade 7 class visited Quebec
City on June 9-13. They stayed at
Laval University and spent three
days visiting important historical
sites in Old Quebec. They toured
the outlying areas of Montmorency
and Grand Canyon, observed a
woodcarver and the Chez Marie
ovens and visited Sainte Anne de
Beaupre.
They saw Africa - the Serengeti,
at the Imax theatre and experienced
a fantastic evening in a disco boat
-cruise along with 1,000 other
young adults.
On Thursday, they toured Upper
Canada Village, stayed at Queen's
University residence and then
toured Kingston's Old Fort Henry
on Friday.
A wonderful educational time
was had by all.
